Stinger-Hunter
I finally put the stalk on some deer in a nearly impenetrable corner beanfield. They inadvertantly worked their way towards the center of the 25 acre field. I hit the "CAN" a few times and 4 deer ran towards me. They spotted me and stopped, I hit the "CAN" again and they came right in. I shot at the second one and it dropped immediately. I assumed it was a doe, but low and behold, it had a couple nubs. This was the first time the deer were really out running around in the last month and a half I've been hunting. I've finally seen some bucks tending does, also. I'll be after the big one pretty soon with my newly restrung PSE Nova. Late season archery, baby!

jerdanmagic
Re: Shot a Button Buck you all say congrats and i dont get it. I feel as though killing Button bucks is bad not only for the herd but bad for my reputation at least where I hunt. Please let me know if there is something that i'm missing here. Thanks
billkay
Re: Shot a Button Buck I think the difference is in knowingly killing a button, and inadvertently doing it. Sometimes, regardless of how hard you look, you simply can't see the nubs. Sounds as though in this situation he simply didn;t realize it as a button
MCH
Re: Shot a Button Buck If it's legal, it's the hunter's choice, regardless of whether they realize what they're doing or not. I'm not saying that everyone needs to shoot every button buck they see, but if a hunter wants to shoot one, I'm not going to judge him. Congratulations, Stinger. dg
Re: Shot a Button Buck Congrats stinger! I also took a BB! It was bald, within bow range, and gave me a clear shot. THUMP!
bulldawg
Re: Shot a Button Buck Congrats on your legal kill. You as a hunter need to kill what suits you. Put all peer pressure aside, as no one but you knows how your hunt should be. I have shot many button bucks, and don't care about anything but the meat on the table that I get out of it. wtnhunt
Re: Shot a Button Buck I personally will not take a button buck, and have never been in a position where I did not know what I was shootingI do however understand that a doe and a button buck could be mistaken especially under poor lighting conditions we sometimes have to deal with. Anyhoo Congratulations, no doubt will be some fine eating right there.

MuZZyMomentZ
Re: Shot a Button Buck Yup the harvest was legal.. so on that note congratz bud. I know it can be hard to tell the difference between a mature doe and a button buck. Anyhoo, ya can't knock it if it is legal... I would prolly get shot by the foreman if I killed a button buck on the land I hunt LOL!

Norm Sauceman
Re: Shot a Button Buck I personally cringe when I see or hear about a button buck being killed. DO I condemn someone for shooting a LEGAL deer, NOT in my control?? (i.e. MY PROPERTY??) HECK NO!. If it is legal, then we has hunters can not NOT should not say a word other than congratulations on your harvest and be done with it..OR say nothing at all. Congratulations on your harvest! I am sure it will be a welcome sight on your dinner table.

Stinger-Hunter
Re: Shot a Button Buck Man, alot of contraversy on this one. For the record, since I could only hunt Sunday morning I set out to fill my tag. I paid $130.00 for it, so I might as well use it. I took the most ethical shot on the most exposed deer. For those who wouldn't shoot a button buck, that's your choice not mine. So please keep your criticisms to yourself. Let's not be like the anti's and condemn others for our beliefs. It's getting a little judgemental in here, I think. Secondly, since I still have an archery tag, I'll make all the ButtonBuck anti's proud in about 2 weeks. Cause that monster is mine soon. [/ QUOTE ] Well said, and again Congratulations I think some of these guys owe you an apology. (JMO) I wouldn't intentionally shoot a nubber during the regular course of the season either, for fear of killing a future good buck on the farm, but, with that said, when it gets down to filling my tag/freezer or not, close to the end of the season, anything goes as long as it's legal Can't wait to see that monster your after bud...He's a brute...go get him and all the best to ya...eh
Jeramie
Re: Shot a Button Buck Congratulations and dont worry about the button buck. If I have my choice I would obviously steer away from a nubber but its hard to tell most of the time unless they are very close. Congratulations on your buck and dont give these criticisms a second thought!
rossman
Re: Shot a Button Buck Now that I think about it, sorry for the critizism. It is very easy to mistake a button buck for a doe. I guess, when I shoot a doe it needs to be a decent size, this way there is less chance to kill a button buck. I would feel too bad. Anyway, congratulations on your deer. Sorry for the critizism!!!!!!
