VTbowman
I know Crown Fetch is very aggressive plant and can take over an area fairly quick. But do you think it can choke out Golden Rod? I have another spot that is not used by the local farm who hays my property and is a perfect plot spot but again is chock full of golder rod. I would of coarse do my best to rid the area but then again I dont wanna dump a ton of time and money into it if the Crown Fetch will do the work for me. Its all I plan to put there to see what happens.
wtnhunt
Re: Another Crown Fetch question....??? lol, you mean crown vetch right? Vetch is pretty expensive, 25 lbs at seedland will run you around $500, 5 lbs around $110. Honestly not so sure if it would choke out the goldenrod or not. Would guess that it might. VTbowman
Re: Another Crown Fetch question....??? I have Crown Vetch planted around my front yard pond that was given to me by my mother out of one of her flower gardens. She said it was taking over everything and was a nightmare to get rid of. I basically spot planted a few bunches here and there and the next year it was like wild fire! Its beautiful when it flowers and makes a good ornimental plant for around the pond but I see deer chomping at it now and again. I plan to just transplant some bunches of it in a few spot to see what happens.
wtnhunt
Re: Another Crown Fetch question....??? Guess if that is the case, might not hurt to experiment with it. Dont know what kind of rate it has to be planted at, but a 50 lb bag runs $980. Here is a link crown vetch, if you had to buy seed, it might be a bit high to experiment with. VTbowman
Re: Another Crown Fetch question....??? I tell ya the stuff is like a virus. Very aggressive growth rate so I can bet it would not take much. My pod is about 50' x 30' and all clay. I put 3 small glumps evenly spaced around it. 1 year later it was knee high and completely grown around it. I mow a path aroud the pond to keep it from getting away but it does grow fast! I figured a few shovles full in about 5 or 6 key spot should have some nice growth by next summer.
