BowtechTurkeyHunter
Re: Tony Stewart [ QUOTE ] http://www.nascar.com/2006/news/headlines/cup/07/24/tstewart.pocono.blame/index.html Iam surprised! But it still does not make what he did right, and I see no apology in there! [/ QUOTE ] I guarantee he didn't write that ... there is no way that is Tony's words ... I bet anything its the team saying you better say this before Nascar puts him behind the eight ball again before the chase ... it would certainly mean a lot more if it was his words but that is worded way to nicely for Tony to say ... spyderpancake
Re: Tony Stewart I hope Carl will have the guts to stand up to him. It would be very nice to see him accidently ruin Tony's chase chances too...
snapper
Re: Tony Stewart Notice no one defending Tony in this thread? I don't think a one lap penalty was enough...should had made it like 10 so there was no way he'd get them back and have a good finish. Nascar just stinks...they don't enforce the rules the same for everyone!!!!! They talk big like they are going to be strict on these guys for "rough" driving...but they are only strict on certain drivers...others get their wrist smacked and still finish good with a large payday. MagnoliaHunter
Two points 1. I dont know what races you guys were watching in the 80s and 90s, but ole Earnhardt was world's worst about wrecking people when he couldnt pass them. He was the dirtiest athlete of any sport. He is the main reason we have all this kind of stuff going on now. Anybody that doesnt acknowledge this is not being honest. 2. While what Tony did was wrong, and he deserved to be black flagged, What Carl did, where he did it was worse and he should have gotten a worse penalty. Think about all those crewmen on pit road, not in cars.

spyderpancake
Re: Two points [ QUOTE ] He was the dirtiest athlete of any sport. [/ QUOTE ] Dude, them's fightin words around here! How in the world do you get to be one of the most beloved and respected sports icons of recent history by being "the dirtiest athlete of any sport"? so you think that Dale was worse than Mike Tyson? I am sick and tired of every time a driver doing something idiotic on the track someone bringing up Earnhardt. Sure, he was an aggressive driver and knocked some people out of the way, but it was also a different kind of racing then too. But Tony Stewart doesn't even belong in the same class as Earnhardt, i highly doubt that he is regarded as highly by the top drivers as he thinks he is. So next time someone blatantly wrecks someone else, could you please refrain from trying to justify it by "Remember Earnhardt".
MagnoliaHunter
Re: Two points >How in the world do you get to be one of the most >beloved and respected sports icons of recent history Now that is one of the funniest things I've read in a long time. Most every racer disliked Dale until after he died. Most fans didnt like him either until after he died. The racing was only different for him. You are right about one thing, Tony doesnt belong in the same class, he's not nearly as dirty as Dale was. Btw I am not a Tony fan. Tyson only had 2 or 3 fights where he did something dirty, granted the ear thing was really bad.
Gator
Re: Two points I USED to not like Sr, then he wracked Rusty Wallace at Talladega, where Wallace went rolling down the infield, Sr came around, stopped his car, got out to check on Wallace, THAT changed my opinion of him right there. One thing about Sr, he was CONSISTENT, and you knew to move or get punted!!!
spyderpancake
Re: Two points that is ridiculous! So suddenly all the drivers and fans started liking him after he died? And how many times did you see Sr. punch media reporters? You are obviously an Earnhardt hater and your comments are just getting stupider, you honestly think he was dirtier than Tyson or whats-his-face that was stomping on someone calf in a football game last year? Gimme a break!
vagobbln
Re: Two points [ QUOTE ] Most every racer disliked Dale until after he died. Most fans didnt like him either until after he died. [/ QUOTE ] Don't mean to hijack a "Tiny Stewart" thread and turn it into the Dale Sr. defense thread, but here goes: Maybe some drivers didn't like him, but I guarantee you every one of them respected him. Do you recall what happened after he finally won Daytona? Not only did every driver line up to congratulate him but every race team did. Have you ever seen anything like that happen for any other driver? As for the fans not liking him, how many gozillions of dollars worth of #3 stickers, t-shirts, decals, etc. do you suppose were sold over the last twenty years? He's been gone five years and they still sell. Do people buy and display all this stuff 'cause they didn't like him? I doubt it. As for Tony Stewart, I just hope I don't draw him in the race pool for the Bristol race next month. I look for him to be in the garage pretty quick.
