[/ QUOTE ] If that was gordon or jj that got ran over like Jr. did, we would still be hearing all the crying and whining about it. Although Jr. didn't like it and wasn't real happy, at least he wasn't whining about it and actually put part of the blame on himself and his team for not having a car that was able to get out of the way. [/ QUOTE ] Even I agree with that one [/ QUOTE ] Now Finn,, you actually don't want to get on this train wreck with Orlan now do ya... And the ISN'T was a typo on my part.... and Uncle Steve, even Petty hasn't got the NUMBERS Gordon has... It's FACT,,, look the numbers up for yourselfs....OH YEAH forgot... not even the truth and fact of black and white will be good enough when it comes to Gordon being undoubtedly the best driver to wheel a car in NASCAR... Like it or NOT folks he's the best until someone can beat his winning record ....

Steven
Re: Tony Stewart [ QUOTE ] and Uncle Steve, even Petty hasn't got the NUMBERS Gordon has... [/ QUOTE ] When did Gordon get win number 201 and championship number 8? Those are the numbers that matter. A few more less important categories show Petty at the top of the food cahin as well: Petty ranks first in numerous NASCAR Winston Cup all-time categories: all-time wins (200), races started (1,184), top-five finishes (555), top-10 finishes (712), pole positions (126), laps completed (307,836), laps led (52,194), races led (599) and consecutive races won (10). Now Luke. You can make your misguided claim that Gordon is better than Earnhardt all you want, but to say Gordon is the top of the food chain? Now that's just ridiculous, blind loyalty to your chosen driver. It makes me wonder if you know anything about the history of the sport or just latched onto it when it started growing in popularity 10 years ago. VermontHunter
Re: Tony Stewart [ QUOTE ] When did Gordon get win number 201 and championship number 8? Those are the numbers that matter. [/ QUOTE ] Now Racksie you would love to only have the above numbers only count as Im sure many Petty and Sr. fans would... but we know that this can't be the case,, a drivers carrer has to be looked at in multiple aspects... And if you really want to be fair, take Pettys numbers from his first 15 yrs. and than compare them to these .... I think you'll see something quite interesting.... Like I said Gordons numbers speak for themselfs no matter what you folks want to say and believe.. But I've also always said that Sr. and Petty with a few others molded this sport and that can never be taken away or forgotten, so that in itself makes them the imortal greats.... And also Im 41,,, I've been watching NASCAR far less in years compared to most,, but have been watching far more than some also....

[/ QUOTE ] You're kidding right ?? Petty Interprises, RCR, and Earnhardt Enterprises.... besides, money doesn't drive a car ,,, the driver doe's and I think drivers like Little E. , Busch, Saddler, and others are proving that point very effectively they have an unlimited supply of resources and can't do jack with them... Gordon, had to compete against accomplished drivers such as Petty and Sr. and did so in a winning fashion... Come on folks just give Gordon his just do,,, he's earned his way into the ranks of the great drivers.....
Steven
Re: Tony Stewart Okay, Luke. I didn't want to do this but you made me. I took the numbers you posted, as well as Earnhardt's numbers from nascar.com and did a little side-by-side comparison. I didn't include 1992 and a979, because neither driver started a full season. So, I compared the first 13 full years of Earnhardt and Gordon's respective careers, and you're right I did find something interesting. Avg. wins Gordon 5.61, Earnhardt 4.46 Avg. finish Gordon 12.4, Earnhardt 11.6 Avg Pts standing Gordon 5.23, Earnhardt 4.69 Championships Gordon 4, Earnhardt 6 So Gordon won an average of 1 race more per year but Earnhardt won every other category. Looks like Earhnardt stays firmly atop the food chain.
SuperMn106
Re: Tony Stewart I am not a Gordon fan but I will give him respect. He is ONE of the best drivers that I have ever seen. Now to the arguement on if he was better than Earnhardt, there is only one Stat that I look at and that is Championships. So right now Earnhardt is better. We will have to see what the rest of Gordons Career. Thats just my opinion. Mike

Steven
Re: Tony Stewart He will be one of the greats one day, Luke, and I do give him the repsect he deserves. But, I don't believe anyone is a legend until they retire. Personally, I have nothing against Gordon, but he still has a long way to go before reaching the pinnacle currently occupied by Petty and Earnhardt. snapper
Re: Tony Stewart Go back and look at the orginal topic...its titled Tony Stewart and it was a member venting about Tony's driving! That member didn't bring Gordon's name into it...and neither did Tony Stewart unless he is a member on our boards that I'm unaware of? I'm not offended...just tired of threads being hijaked! If you are upset with what Tony did...reply with your opinion...if your not upset...reply with your opinion. If you want to compare Stats on a dead nascar driver to another driver....start another topic...that isn't that hard to understand. Never said anyone wasn't being civil.
