Guest outdoor_adventurer
are food plots in indiana illegal? i know several people that have them and i was wondering if they were? i have read the regulations over and over and it clearly does not say that food plots are illegal but mineral licks are... i take it as a mineral lick is a salt block or like deer cane or something like that... can someone clearify this for me!? lil hunter
Re: food plots in indiana? i'm 99% sure that food plots are completely legal in indiana. I'm pretty sure it's only considered baiting if it is a product placed in the location, meant to be consumed by an animal. In the regulations, it lists salt, and mineral licks, liquid or solid, but it says nothing about planted things.
Guest outdoor_adventurer
Re: food plots in indiana? the regulations are so vague that how are you supposed to know what is legal or not? so as long as i wouldn't hunt over the plot it would be legal? or could i hunt over it like the guys in missouri and iowa??? Ravin R10 man
Re: food plots in indiana? call your local DNR office, I have not heard of any state banning a crop
hunterfisherman
Re: food plots in indiana? I am in Indiana and food plots are legal. What's illegal is baiting a spot for 10 before you hunt. Baiting would be any attractent or lick. No problems with food plots though. Are you planting just for deer. The NWTF has a program were they will provide seed for food plots on land. There are a few restrictions but not many. Mainly min. acres and such. If you get with your regional DNR biologist he or she can give you tips on what grows best in your area. Don't forget to test your soil. Bad soil can cost you good money. Good luck and happy hunting
