Re: reloading

Yup.... Just started.

I thought about it for a while and finally picked up the Rock Chucker off of ebay. I got several dies with it and a few bullets (Hornady, .243). Ive already done the math and I will save a little on .243 rounds. Im also going to try my hand at varmint rounds!

Im going to start reloading .30-06 pretty soon. I have the brass, I just need to get the bullets. I have a few dies I may never use and thought about putting them up for Sale. Im pretty sure I will never own a .222 and have my doubts about a .22-250.

I like it. Ive been reading every chance I get trying to soak this all in. So far, so good.

Re: reloading

I've been reloading for about 3 years now. So far I only reload for my .270 and .30-06, but may be adding an NEF Buffalo Classic in .45-70 to my cabinet by the end of the year. Can't wait to put a tang sight on it and see what it can do at 600 and 1000 yards wink.gif Never shot that far before, but I bet it's a blast with tang sights!

Re: reloading

I have been reloading rifle cartridges for nearly ten years. The cartridges I have reloaded include .223, .257 roberts, 7mm-08, 25-06 improved, 30-30, 30-06, 300 WSM, and 300 RSUM. I have just gotten started loading handgun rounds this year for a 44 mag. I love it. I would love to get into benchrest shooting in the future.

Re: reloading

Yes, but I have a love-hate relationship going with it... I love it AFTER I figure out what my "new" rifle likes. I hate getting all the small things lined out. Five rounds of this and that gets old to me very quick. Cases, primers, powders, bullets, trimming, turning, tempature, and wind make me like that guy on the Avaitor. This loaded round is going to be the wave of the future, wave of the future, wave of the future..... ha ha

Re: reloading

Have been reloading for 25 - 30 years. Load for every metallic cartridge I shoot. When I buy a gun, I buy the brass, bullets and dies at the same time. Currently loading for:

221 Fireball

222 Rem

220 Swift

270 Win

7mm STW

30/40 Krag

308 Win

30-06

300 Win Mag

7.62x39

32 Spl.

9mm Para

38 Spl.

357 Mag

375 Wby Mag

40 S&W

10mm Auto

44/40

44 Spl

44 Rem Mag

45/70 Govt.

I think that's all of them.

Ive already done the math and I will save a little on .243 rounds.

After much thought, I think I'm going to get into reloading myself, not only for the accuracy, but for the savings also. A friend of mine who reloads explained it to me like this.

If you reload correctly and precisely you can't figure on saving by the cheap $13 a box 243 ammo that is put out by the factory. If you do it right, you should be doing the math on the supreme loads that run $23-$30 a box or even like a $40-$50 a box custom load if you do a lot of work getting the perfect load for your gun.

For a relatively tini bit of change and time you can go from the bottom of the barrel ammo to the best stuff on the market. I think that's the key to reloading as I understand it at this point.

Re: reloading

Relative to the dollar savings of re-loading................Do any of you assign a dollar figure to your time? If you put any value on your time, and you are doing a real careful job of reloading the most accurate shots you can, I really doubt that there are any dollar savings involved in reloading.

The other consideration is the value of the equipment required. Start amortizing that over the cost of each box of reloaded ammo.

What justifies the activity for me is that I completely enjoy reloading and for me it is all part of the recreation. So the time spent is really quite cheap. But if I had to boil it all down to dollars and cents, I think reloading would wind up a losing proposition. For example, if I was reloading as a business, people probably wouldn't want to pay what I would have to charge in order to make a decent profit.

Re: reloading

I don't look at the cost of reloaded ammo at all! What I look for is the most accurate load I can get and that is from reloading! laugh.gif

Reloading beats sitting on your butt in front of a TV set! Now that is an expense waste of labor!! LOL!! grin.gifsmirk.gif
