Rut-Nut
ANy clue as to what to use? I would use the stuff for the bathroom, but I'm afraid I'll ruin the canvas! Any help would be greatly appreciated!
BowtechTurkeyHunter
Re: How to get mildew off canvas on a Pop-up camper The instructions on my Canvas tent say to use a mild dishwashing detergent to clean off the mildew and then spray on a water proof spray afterwards ... I had to do it once and it worked well for me ... I think I used like canvasback or something like that to seal the canvas afterwards. Palssonater
Re: How to get mildew off canvas on a Pop-up camper Not sure what kind of canvas it is, but if it's anything like a trappers tent, you might be able to get some cleaning solution and waterproofing from your local sporting goods store. Tominator
Re: How to get mildew off canvas on a Pop-up camper Mildew is tough stuff. Only thing I know that works really well is bleach.
Rut-Nut
Re: How to get mildew off canvas on a Pop-up camper Thanks guys! I think I will need to use something with bleach. How strong would you suggest Tominator? 1:20?
wtnhunt
Re: How to get mildew off canvas on a Pop-up camper I use a mix of 50 percent ultra Clorox bleach and water on my siding on the north side of my house each spring when it starts to get a little green. It has not caused the siding to fade or deteriorate. Might try the bleach and water mixture in an inconspicuous spot.
BowJoe
Re: How to get mildew off canvas on a Pop-up campe Oxy Clean. Works really well with a strong mixture. Make sure it dissolves completely and then after it dries, spray it with Sno-Seal. You can find them both at walmart or you can order the sno seal at basspro or cabelas or any sporting goods store. I know it sounds like hype but it really does work. No matter what you use, it will take some elbow grease. The Oxy clean however doesn't fade the color on your canvas. Griz
Re: How to get mildew off canvas on a Pop-up campe TSP works real good for taking off mildew... Back when I was painting houses this is how I used it... I always mix a small box of TSP with some bleach and Liq. Tide soap... Strain it and put it a hand sprayer. Spray it on real good on the mildew areas and let it sit for about 5 minutes or so (Don't let it dry) and wash it off... This mix will kill the mildew and keep it from coming back... Guest Andrea
Re: How to get mildew off canvas on a Pop-up campe We use Tilex. Don't even have to scrub it....just spray it on, wait a few minutes and rinse it with the hose. Voila! Looks good as new. We use it on our camper and the seats on the boat. Rut-Nut
Re: How to get mildew off canvas on a Pop-up camper Thanks for all the suggestions folks! I think I will try the tilex. I really don;t care if it discolors- it's on the back side of the trailer, and I am more of a functional type guy- don;t care too much about looks. If it kills the mildew, that's all I care about. Thanks again!

No discoloration on that or the olive green boat seats. It might react differently with a bolder color though.
Guest wmramse
Re: How to get mildew off canvas on a Pop-up camper The best stuff I've found for cleaning EVERYTHING is Simple Green. I use SG and bleach to pressure wash houses and concrete. If your canvas is some color other than white, I dunno about using bleach. You might try it on a small spot and see what happens though - bleach is gonna be the best way to get rid of mold and mildew. The Simple Green will get rid of any stains and/or dirt left over. It's also biodegradeable and safe on the skin. I keep a gallon jug around the house and clean everything with it.

Will put in a little more bleach in to bring it up to 2:1.5 or so when I do the whole trailer this weekend. Thanks for all the help folks! Better be careful with that. I don't know what's in Simple Green, but if it contains ammonia, the bleach will create chlorine gas! Very nasty stuff. Better read the label on the SG and find out what's in it before you take an unscheduled trip to the ER!!!
