Re: salt block

Have used several types of minerals. Everything from commercial for deer minerals to loose handmixed minerals and di cal, and livestock type blocks. Best results we have had have come from the trophy rocks and the plain red trace mineral livestock blocks.

Re: salt block

I use the white salt block and the mineral blocks( 50# ) and the deer started hitting them within 2 days. If you get them at a feed or tractor supply store, they are under 4 bucks for the salt and under 6 bucks for the mineral.

Re: salt block

Its almost to late in the year for salt to get going. It will take a month for them to start hitting it and when it starts getting cool they dont need it as much. You can make your own blend for a good price. Buy one bag of rock salt, two bags of brown mineral salt and one bag of Di calcium phosphate. Mix together and you have a great combo. It will cost about 30 bucks. I have a barrel with this mix and I bring a 5 lbs coffee can with me to freshen my licks each time I go out there in the summer. They are hitting this hard. Good luck. grin.gif

we use the regular old white one... the deer love it. it takes them a few days to find it and they will eat it up.

Re: salt block

I have always used plain white morton salt blocks, I have used them for a couple of years now and they seem to work just fine. I know that they aren't very expensive as it is, but what I did is, since I work at Lowe's I kind of got the hook up, just wait till the stores start gettin grid of them and go in and buy them when they are marked down. I got 11 -50 pound blocks for like $10, and they're usually like $6 each.
