Hello all,

I have about a 1.5 acre field that I have plowed up twice early this summer to prepare for fall planting. We plowed it up late May and of course, weeds and grass have begun to take over. This week we will be spraying it with round up and we plan on planting in a few weeks, sometime in early august. I have gotten my soil samples done and everything is ready BUT the main part.... Im unsure of what to plant. We have about 6 gas wells on our land that have all been planted with clover so we have a ton of clover on the land. Im thinkin about goin with something from Biologic but they all sound like the same thing, so do yall have any suggestions for me? Im liking the BioMaxx but think you're supposed to plant it in spring????? I also like the sounds of the outters blend and the full draw... but the maximum also sounds good.... haha so, tell me the truth fellow hunters, i dont want to waste my time and money , and like I said, we have a lot of clover already on the property. So what should I go with????

Would not use the full draw, actually would most likely not use any of the biologic branded seed blends. The deer here would not touch the full draw. For perenials have had our best luck with clovers planted in the fall. September here is the best time to plant clovers if you decide to go with clovers. For a fall/winter mix, this is what I am going with this year fall/winter blend.

Re: plot help asap, asap

50# winter wheat

50# rye grain

25# oats

25# austrian winter peas

5# of a brassica mix

250# of triple 13

that would be my choice for a 1.5 acre food plot.

This plot will be attractive and provide forage for your deer from early fall to spring.

I like how this man thinks!!!!!

3 of his 5 will be on my land this year.

You can't go wrong with oats, brassica mix & winter peas.

I'm also planting some vetch & chicory.

Re: plot help asap, asap

has anyone had any luck with lab lab. When we travel to So Illinois , the deer love that stuff there. I don't think you're supposed to plant it during fall though???am I correct? any opinions. Also i received info about the hamann farms products which look pretty impressive, especially the winter annual blend and the fall blend. Keep in mind I want something that will not have to be replanted yearly, one that will last for a few years and something distictivly different than clover b/c we have a lot already on the property. I barely have time to do projects such as these with my lil man runnin around and work. Thanks for the opinions and keep em comin!!!!!!!

Lablab is a spring summer food plot and is an annual. You can leave it standing through the fall though. We found here that with lablab plus with the sorghum the deer fed on the sorghum on into the winter after the beans were gone.

As for a perenial aside from clover, birdsfoot trefoil is a good choice, chickory is another choice. Martin uses birdsfoot trefoil in his hamann farms perenial blends. The fall deer blend sounds like what you are after and uses both chickory and trefoil.

I left the lab lab through the winter and there was enough seeds left on the plants to replant it when I disced the plot this summer.

Yep, it can reseed if you have beans left that did not get eaten and after discing they make good seed to soil contact. Had sweet corn growing alll over our garden spot this spring after discing before hittin git with roundup.

For this years summer plots I went with my own custom mix: used part of a leftover bag of lablab plus along with purple hull peas(cowpeas) from the garden that were sorted out as bad along with some sorghum from the coop.

Posted pics of those plots progress in here the other day, they are doing great.
