huntaholic
I am going to start goose hunting and was wondering how many decoys I need. I will be hunting a silage field where there are at least 500 geese in every day durring early season. Will 2doz. decoys be enough to get them to land in my area? I was thinking 1doz shells and 1doz sillouttes, or should I just go with shells. Thanks
Strut10
Re: How many dekes do I need? Some days we run 12-14 dozen. Some days we put out 3 decoys. All depends on what the geese have been seeing lately. When you're just getting started, you make do with what you've got. Just by virtue of the fact that you already have 500 birds landing in your field, you are over half way there. You're already where they want to be. Two dozen should be sufficient. Covehnter
Re: How many dekes do I need? If you're in the right place, just a couple would insure that they'll backpedal where you want them!

double_drop
Re: How many dekes do I need? 2 to 4 dozen decoys would be plenty. We normally set out 2 dozen early and mid season and then late season we run anywhere from 4 to 14 dozen depends on the birds and the location. DU_man_84
Re: How many dekes do I need? yep early season you can get buy with a few dekes, but late in the season when the birds come down, its a numbers game then, we get all the dekes out then
