Jeramie
Our daughter was born with an Umbilical hernea. We noticed the problem a few months after she was born. Basically the hole the cord comes through (in the stomach muscle) never closes and heals. In boys they dont typically fix the problem but in girls it can cause a tear and problems when they are old enough to get pregnant. The hole allows intestine and such to pass through slightly. Obviously its still covered by skin so its not exposed or anything. It just makes an odd shape lump and in our case it makes a ball on the outside close to the size of a Lemon. There really isnt any danger, it just doesnt look pretty. We had to see a specialist when she was roughly 3 months old. He told us to come back around this time to schedule a minor surgery. A couple of stitches later it would be over but they had to put my daughter out. That scared me and my wife to death. Our church and family have been praying since we found out. It continually reduced in size to a normal looking belly button. In prayer the women of the church would even anoint it with oil. Praise god, my wife just left the surgeon and he was amazed. He said it had healed, which isnt typical. It still had a tiny hole but it wasnt even large enough to let anything through. It would heal completley on its own, no cutting and stitching involved. Not only that but it saved us a $1400 major medical co-pay. Thank you God! My wife and I both feel as if a 10-ton weight has been lifted. By His stripes, we are healed..... wtnhunt
Re: Praise God, Praise God, Praise God! That is good she does not have to have surgery jeramie. Our oldest daughter had an umbilical hernia, we often wondered if that might of had anything to do with her being so bad colicky. You are right they are not pretty. Largest hers ever got was about the size around of a golf ball, that was big. It eventually went away on its own, just like the physicians told us they do in most cases. Dont remember the doctors ever mentioning anything about future problems with pregnancies related to the hernia.

bfletch7441
Re: Praise God, Praise God, Praise God! That's great to hear. A little faith goes a long way!!! My 4-month old nephew has the same thing, and like you said, they aren't doing anything about it. Hopefully he has a little of your daughter's luck. NYBUCK
Re: Praise God, Praise God, Praise God! Jeramie, I know your feelings quite to well. Two of my three daughters were born with hemangioma's (sp). One was ok becasue it was small and on her belly, but the other, my oldest, was right between her eyes and got to be about the size of a golf ball. It looked down right horrific. Many Dr's told us not to touch it because of the blood, until they started to learn about more about them. We went to a specialist when she was about 15 and had it removed. We felt so bad for her going through her school age years with this thing but we believe it made her stronger because of it. She is such a beautiful girl. God was looking out for her all through the years and even through the surgery.
