Guest MarylandQDMA
well after a 36 hour drive to and from I made my way back from my caribou hunt. it was a blast. there were 3 of us in the blazer (and that hunted together). we all taged out are FIRST day. it was a blast untill we realised that we had to gut and drag 6 bou's out of the woods. talk about a lot of work! as I get time I'll fill you all in on the does and don't of the trip. I'll also work on getting some photos posted for you all. for the record I shot a cow and a bull. Frank

Guest MarylandQDMA
Re: I\'m back! that is a BIG don't on my list. I wish I could go back, and take my time and realy study the bou prior to shooting. how ever, being the first time and not knowing what to expect, we all tag out. I would defently hold off shooting any thing the first day. I should have left the gun in the truck, and shot my vidio cramra insted on day one. also I would have droped the 80.00 bucks for a guide the frist day, inorder to learn how to hunt biger and better bou's. I'm going to Northern Quebec next Sept. and hope to get (at least) one with the bow. I can'[t wait!

Guest Colorado Bob
Re: I\'m back! Hope I'm not stepping on your toes here mdgc. He went on a winter caribou in northern Quebec. I know of 3 outfitters there. Mirage, Nouichimi, & Northern Caribou Adventures. It's a DIY hunt. The caribou are on the winter range here. The outfitters cabins are on a power plant road. They are several large hydro-electric power plants there. The road was build to serves them. I'm book with Northern Caribou for Thanksgiving week of 2005. Mirage is the best but I've not beable to book with them because the spots are already taken---last years hunters can rebook there spots for next year & most do. Best time to go is the last couple weeks of Nov & the 1st week of December. After that the antlers are dropping of the bulls & the weather can be brutal. Mirage has a wwebsite----- www.mirage.com So does Nouchimi---spelling is wrong here ---I'l look it up & repost. Also the Dept of Game has several tracking collars on the caribou----They update the location of the herds weekly. You can watch them make their way down to the hunting area. I've heard now they are out of the area & a little further south. Northern Caribou is a booking agent in NY--- the quebec outfitter is Nonat Asseisin. If you intersted go to www. hunting.net -- Go to the forums. -- go to the regional sectional. -- I think it's either Canadian or other. Anyway there is a 34 page thread there. It's really detailed. Like I said I'm going next year with a couple RT board members. Hope this helps. CB
Guest Colorado Bob
Re: I\'m back! Frank ---Did you use that black powder gun or did you stick with the 7mm-08? You were talking of using one then the other for the 2nd caribou. Did you rebook with Mirage? I got a letter last week advising of a cost increase-- Hunt for me in 2005 is now $1610----includes the cost of 2 tags. But 'm paying-----I got to see 1000's & 1000's of caribou!!! Rut-Nut
Re: I\'m back! Thanks Bob! DO you know how far North the camp is? I'm booked with 2 friends for Sept. 11-18 ,2005. Booked with Ungava Caribou Expedition. ONe of the friends works for them a couple weeks a year. I'm so PUMPED! I want to try to get one with the Bow- that's my ultimate goal. I'm taking a rifle as backup though! I hear the fishing is unbelievable too! I don;t know exactly where their camp is, just that it's about 2.5 hrs north of SHefferville by float plane. Heard it was tough hunting there this year due to mild weather and the carribou were all at the first camp(and not moving!)! They have 5 camps I think. THe guys there at that camp were in heaven- thousands of caribou all around the camp. They ended up flying most of the guys from the other camps to that one by the end of the week. Still filled most of the tags, but it took some hard hunting. I'm hoping the weather and the migration is a little more predictable this coming fall! Thanks again for the info!
