Dakota
Dad and I went to a friend's farm Thursday night to take care of their rabbit infestation problem (It's legal to shoot them out of season if they are invading the crops and if it's not...then I take full responsibility and will pay any fines ). After dropping a rabbit with my 20 ga. single-shot, the farmer went up into the barn rafters and scared out eight pigeons (or Rock Doves...whatever you want to call them). I was using dove loads and totally missed as one by one they flew out the loft window. Then we went to go trap shoot. After half an hour we saw the pigeons return and land on a grain bin. I traded the 20 for our friend's 12 (I didn't have mine along at the time) and went to position myself between them and the barn. My dad and Dave went and scared them up. They flew my way, but then saw the setting sun glint off the 870 and started flying away. I shot but missed, and I swear! The buckskin horse in the pen next to me was laughing at me! I hope dove season doesn't turn out like this. I'm coming there though for the season 'cause there I can shoot rock doves and mourning doves. It was hopping with doves when we were after the rabbits. I swear I saw easily thirty or forty! Dakota

too_pointer
Re: Don\'t know if I\'m ready for dove season. I think some skeet or trap shooting would help a long ways for dove shooting. I don't know for sure because we have an anti governor woman from Canada worrying about our doves too_
Dakota
Re: Don\'t know if I\'m ready for dove season. Well, I went to church this morning and Dave said that when he was shoveling manure in the cattle yard he found a dead pigeon. I thought I had hit one, turns out he dropped out of my sight. I feel a bit more confident now about the dove season. Dakota
