I'm wanting to buy a camera and need help...

Lastnight I went to Wally World to look at digital cameras.

I am wanting to get something small that I can tote around with me when I'm out hunting or scouting. I really don't want to spend alot of money on one either.

Walmart had a small 4mp. Kodiak camera for around 129 bucks... Is this a good deal...

I really don't know what I'm looking at or do I know anything about them. Can anybody help me out on what to do...

Thanks...

Griz...

For hunting and scouting I would suggest something with a good optical zoom. I have a 5.0mp Kodak with 10x optical zoom and alot of times out in the field that is not enough but most cameras you see in stores dont go over 10-12x optical. I bought mine used on ebay for around $200.

Go here to review camera's>>> http://www.dpreview.com/

Then go here to price the camera you want! Brand new camera's to find the lowest price! I bought a $700 Fuji FinePix S700 for $400! Then there's Ebay like mentioned above. I personally don't like buying used camera equipment, but then that's just me! Nothing wrong with it, but there is no warranty if something goes wrong!

I feel like a broken record recommending this camera but it really is that good.

Canon Powershot S2 IS has a 12X optical lense and 5mp sensor in it. The image stabilization really helps those long telephoto shots. I got the optional telephoto lense attachment for this camera and snapped this picture at full digital and optical zoom. The deer was at least 70yds away. All I did was resize it for web posting.

Since the S3 is now out prices on the S2 are dropping quick. This was a $500 camera you now can find it for under $300. The camera is also bundled with great stitching software for enormous landscape photos and decent image editing software. In addition it's pictbridge capable allowing you to print from the camera hooked to any pictbridge capable printer.

Really depends on how much you want to spend Dale. The little point and shoot digitals have come a long ways. Some great cameras in the point and shoots at wal mart that should be more than ample for hunting and scouting for under $200.

Here is a link to a sony at wal mart that would be better than that kodak, and just a little more than the kodak you are looking sony 6mp

I just bought my wife a Canon Powershot S3 IS today for her B-Day. I ordered it online for $395. By looking at all the reviews, this camera came up as one of the top end cameras for the price. When it gets in I will take it to the field and take some pics. I will let you know how it performs.

I have gone through 3-4 of those lesser expensive digital cameras ($100-$250). My wife and I finally bought one that was (at least for us) expensive. We bought a Sony Cyber-shot with a 12X optical zoom. It is 5.1 mega pixels, and it takes superb pictures. I would recomend something in this category of cameras (doesn't have to be Sony).

That's a great deal on that camera! Go ahead and plan on buying a 1GB card. You probably won't fill one up with pictures. But the camera takes great video shorts and those take quite a bit more space on the card.

I have had great success with Kodak. I started with a less expensive one and am on my third one now. Each time I have moved up to a better model and I now have there P880. This is there top of the line point and shot. THe ones I had before have been handed done to relatives and are still working. One of them is six years old. Kodak are easy to use and durable. Even there low end camera's will take nice pictures. Make sure you get at least a 3mp but the 4mp is ideal. Don't forget a memory card. I would suggest a 256k. Cheap and will allow you plenty of pictures.
