ousoonerfan22
Have you guys had any luck with them? Are they worth the price over regular oats?
FSU_Seminole
Re: buck forage oats? Yes BFO are good seeds & they do attract deer. Their website makes some bold claims so I did what they suggested, I strip planted their oats next to some other stuff & the deer devoured their plants. I replanted 2 years ago in a different place & one evening I counted 18 deer in a half acre plot. Last year I planted another 1/2 acre & the biggest buck I saw all year walked right into the BFO plot 4 days before the season ended. I had just climbed down from my stand & he entered the plot, it was way too dark to attempt a 125 yard shot, all I could see was horns bobbing up & down from him grazing then looking. I caught a photo of that deer on my trail camera a month later. He was on a trail leading right to that plot. The photos of him are on my work computer & I'll post them tomorrow. He should be an impressive deer this fall. I'll be planting BFO, Shot Plot & some Tecomate brassica this fall for sure.
dogdoc
Re: buck forage oats? I do believe BFO are a good product but I haven't been able to dish out the extra bucks for it. I usually just plant regular oats and have had great luck with them. No matter what type of oats you plant they will die on the first good hard freeze--so don't put all your eggs in one basket---plant the oats in a mix with of other cereal grains such as wheat and/or rye. I have just as much luck the regular Oats, wheat and crimson clover blend.
FSU_Seminole
Re: buck forage oats? Well here is that buck I was telling you about that walked into the BF plot & I didn't get a crack at him because it was too dark. This first picture he was just working a scrape. The second picture he's on the trail leading right to the plot a month after the season was over. Ive never planted regular oats from a feed store or anything so I can't compare it to BF. But I do know that deer really like them.
