stick
I was just out looking this weekend and only found one oak tree that had any acorns on it, and that was over an area of about 40 acres. I guess that there will not be a crop at all this year. Well if you have a feeder out it should really draw them in.
dogdoc
Re: oklahoma drought! I usually see many more deer in years of a poor acorn crop--however it makes it tougher on the deer. If you plant food plot you should have a very successful season. The only time i've seen deer actually eat the turnip on purple top turnips was a year where there were very little acorns. todd
bowhtr1
Re: oklahoma drought! We lost most of our trees with Katrina. After thay we had a bad drought also. If I can find some that produce it should be just as good as a food plot. Of course I will have the plots also.
surreybigbuckhunter
Re: oklahoma drought! it seems like the less there are to chose from the easier it will be to chose where to hunt, if there are few trees bearing acorns then the deer will be more concentrated in the areas that there are trees
wtnhunt
Re: oklahoma drought! Got some oak trees that produce here pretty well year after year. With thousands of mature oaks around, you can count on several dropping acorns during the season, many at the same time. Too many acorns make hunting a bit tougher in my opinion. Seasons where we have wet springs tend to have considerably better acorn productions. Got one black oak that is loaded, that tree is actually in our grower plot, and it is the trees first year of producing. Will be interesting to watch to see if the deer pick those acorns out of the clovers.

Gator
Re: oklahoma drought! I am wondering what this drought will do to the fawns this year........... Bet we have a record harvest to, IF we get rain and good amounts this winter for the wheat......
CDubWSR
Re: oklahoma drought! I would love a low mast crop this year... but if we dont get any rain im not gonna waste all the food plot seed I have by putting it in the ground and watching it burn up. I will probably wait till the very end of August before I even think about putting seed in the ground because we all know it will rain durring dove season. Gator
Re: oklahoma drought! So who knows when I will plant this year
ousoonerfan22
Re: oklahoma drought! I'm going to try discing my plots again this week but one hasn't been disced since last fall and I'm afraid the ground will probably be too hard to do much good on it. I would like to plant around the first of september that's if we get some rain. The lablab I had come back up below my parents house seems to handle this heat and drought so far. stick
Re: oklahoma drought! normally where I am hunting I see about 5 or 6 different does, This summer with my trail cam I am seeing as many as 8 mature does. I think I will wait as late as I can to plant my green fields, maybe the middle of sept. It should be awesome hunting this year.
