Guest colohntr
Just comfirmed a December whitetail hunt in Bronte, Tx. Don't know how good the hunting is there but I'm going with my brother and 6 friends. I'm looking forward to a real good time. By the way, anyone know how the weather is there at that time of year

texastrophies
Re: Texas Hunt Don't really know to much about the hunting in that part of the State, but I think you should be in a pretty good area. As for the weather, your extremes could be from in the teens for lows to in the 70's for highs. The average weather should probably be low's in the 40's and highs around 50 - 60. Texan_Til_I_Die
Re: Texas Hunt I'm on a lease about 60 miles NW of Bronte. Weather is typically cool and dry, but you do need to prepare for extremes, just in case. I'd check www.weather.com before I headed out. The terrain there is a transition zone. south and east is hill country, with a lot of small hills, liveoaks, cedars, and prickly pears. Going north and west takes you into more arid country. Flatter, more mesquites, more sand and fewer big trees. That area isn't known for huge deer, but there are a few of the bigger ranches that have managed their herds well and are starting to get some trophy sized animals. Expect to see somewhere around 20 - 30 deer per day. Maybe more if you hunt a good food source like a wheat or oat field. A big buck from there will usually weigh about 150 - 180 lbs and score around 140 - 160 B&C. There's a potential for long shots, so I'd suggest something flat shooting between a 270 and a 300 mag. Good luck! FYI - December will be post rut.
