VABuckSlayer
Re: a sad state of affairs BB11, Do you guys have anyone left on your original team after the trade deadline? My question is... if all these teams traded to get half your team then how come the Pirates sucked? Eric

They trade half the decent guys on the team to contenders for absolutely nothing in return, therefore not improving the club in anyway and the scenario is repeated the following year. They do actually have some nice talent on this team, but their whole starting pitching staff is terrible. They are young, so maybe if they can all come around in the next couple years this team might have a chance but then again....probabaly not. muggs
Re: a sad state of affairs it looks like the Tribe is going the same route. The Dolan's just make empty promises. They told fans they'd be ready to compete by 2004. Well, it was 2005 that they did, and the Dolan's said they'd spend the money when they felt the foundation was in place...they didn't. Now they're doing the same thing as the Buco's. Having a fire sale on veterans and getting nothing back for them. Bottomline, the owner's are saving millions and that's all they really care about. [/ QUOTE ] Welcome to Cleveland. Does the name Modell ring a bell? Every Sunday he filled Municipal with close to 75,000 fans, and his annual rent for the place was a whopping $1! But that wasn't enough, so he stole the real Browns and took them away all for the almighty dollar.
muggs
Re: a sad state of affairs Its hard to name a more incompetent owner than Larry Dolan, but Art Modell is. I read a really interesting book, "False Start" by Terry Pluto (sports writer for Akron's paper). He said that Art Modell had to pull money for three different banks to get the money for Andre Rison's signing bonus. He was flying all over town to get the funds on time so his check wouldn't bounce. I think it was like 5 million dollars, that's it. That guy had a gem with the Browns, like you said, they sold out every game...and he just couldn't manage his money. Then when he couldn't afford to even write anymore checks...he moves to Balitmore and gets a 100 million just for the effort. What did he do then, he blamed it on the City of Cleveland for not building him a stadium...
