wtnhunt
Re: Poison Ivy I usually get in the pool and soak a good while after I know I have gotten into it, and that helps. Can go to your dr and get a shot that will relieve the itch.
Tominator
Re: Poison Ivy If you've already got it, go to the doc and get a prescrip. for Clobetasol and Prednisone. To prevent it, there's a few soaps on the market now that if you use them as soon as you know you've been in it, they work pretty good. Guest Andrea
Re: Poison Ivy I got rid of mine pretty quickly this go 'round. ( I get it really bad every summer) All I used was Band-Aid brand spray-on calamine lotion. Works lots better than that pink watery liquid you pour out of a bottle. ( Always runs all over the place) Last summer I got it so bad I had to get a shot. I was shocked that this spray got rid of it this time. Good luck!!!! Don't scratch!! 007hunter
Re: Poison Ivy Around here you have to have it on your face before the doc will prescribe you anything. I've heard good things about a product called zanfel. Supposed to best over the counter product. Its expensive though but well worth it.... Least they did when it was covering my face and almost in my eyes.

[/ QUOTE ] 007 is absolutely correct, pricy but it is well worth it's weight in gold. I am in the woods surveying year round and I have a bottle or two of the stuff at home. Gets rid of it in about 2-3 days tops.

Guest Matte
Re: Poison Ivy I have operated a paintball field for 13 years now and there a two things that work really well. This is a pretreat before you go into the woods. Tinactin or IVY block Tinactin works really good at stopping the oils that cause the rash so does Ivy block. Turkeygirl
Re: Poison Ivy Take about the hottest bath you can stand; I was told that in Wilderness First Responder training. It will help you to kind of sweat out the poison ivy poisons and such. I'll look up and see what I have written down about poison ivy treatment that may help. ODH
Re: Poison Ivy I got a bad case of it a few weeks ago. It took a good few weeks to get rid of. I used hair spray(to dry it up), lotion stuff, bleach, but bleach with an open sore isn't the best idea. Use oatmeal bath stuff( not sure what kind cuz I'm just a guy, lol)

Exturkinator
Re: Poison Ivy Try this logic - each single thing above has worked for people you trust, therefore, if you use them all at once, you would surely get a good result.... So, combine all of these (bleach, regular Calamine, rubbed alcohol, drinking alcohol, a good pool soak, a visit to the doctor for a shot, clobetasol, prednisone, special soaps, Band-aid brand spray-on Calamine, dont scratch, zanfel, some pretreatments, tinactin, IVY block, a soak in the hottest bath bearable, a baking soda / water paste, hairspray, lotion, and oatmeal bath stuff) and you'll be good to go. TxStarr
Re: Poison Ivy DO NOT USE BLEACH!! I cannot stress this enough. It can burn the skin and cause major problems (I have even seen scars from this). Chlorine (as in a pool) makes it feel better and helps dry it up fast ... not sure why. Aveeno or any other oatmeal bath helps. Once you have already broken out, a bath in water as hot as you can stand only makes it itch like the devil and can also cause it to spread but it can help before you actually break out. A mixture of baking soda and vinegar in a thick paste ... this feels good and helps with the itch but it stinks and is super messy when it starts flaking off. I have used Zyradryl (over the counter) with good results in the past (until I built up a tolerance to it). Ice helps with the itching. I take Benadryl allergy when I have it -- any allergy medicine should help because of the histamine blockers. There is a new product out from Cortaid that is an exfoliant and spray that looks promising. If it keeps getting worse, the doctor can give you a shot to help dry it up. If you get it anywhere near your eyes, GO TO THE DOCTOR! If you know you have been exposed to it, wash everything you were wearing -- especially your shoes. I usually run my clothes through a cold rinse cycle and then wash them in warm water (and I have been paranoid enough to wash them twice). Rinse off with cool water without soap (to keep from washing away your natural oils) then go with the hot shower (I say shower instead of bath because you are just sitting in the water that has all of the stuff you have just sweated out and washed off and there is no telling where the nasty stuff will pop up). Good luck ... Shannon
