archerjg
Re: So Much For KIA! Sorry to hear that. Sounds like my sister's Acura she has to have the timing belt changed every 50,000 to 60,000 miles and by that time it is in pretty bad shape. Good luck fixing it and selling it. AdvantageTimberLou
Re: So Much For KIA! sorry to hear about your KIA Jeramie, when you last talked about it and how it was running was questioned the timing being off. Didn't think it was the belt being bad though. I like the old days, belts were actually chains and if that broke, well, you knew it!! Must be the belt stretching or something to make that KIA run like it does. Did that camshaft sensor help? What did you replace last time? I am not up on KIA, that is why I stick with GM products, you can be as dumb as a rock when it comes to cars but you can talk your way around a GM motor!! LOL!! Hope it gets better for you Jeramie and that KIA!!!
Jeramie
Re: So Much For KIA! Actually I havent replaced anything yet. They keep yelling at me about the belt so I didnt throw out the $200 for sensors. Dad had a point, if it was the belt stretching it woudl jump "teeth" and stay out of time. Then it wouldnt run at all...... Right? It hasnt been started in a few days so it will fire up and run like a champ until the motor gets good and hot (15-20 minutes, unless youre driving. Then its about 10). If the belt was really stretching wouldnt it loose time, throw everything off and then not run smooth to any degree? Dad also didnt think it would trip a sensor and cause the light to come on. Wadda ya think Mechanics? Anyway, our Mechanic gets back in town on Monday. He's on vacation this week. Im going to have it tested Monday and see what the problem is.

[ QUOTE ] Maint. you gotta maintain your car ! or this is what happens [/ QUOTE ] I have a Pontiac Grand Prix Gt with 142,000 miles and I have never touched its timing belt, who would think to do that? I don't think Jeramie neglects his maintenace program, I think he just has a lemon in that KIA or maybe once its fixed it will run for another 50,000 miles without issues. wtnhunt
Re: So Much For KIA! Sorry to hear that Jeramie. That really stinks. Just dont know about those little imports, will never ever own one. Too bad you couldnt find a totalled out low miles kia cheap with a good engine and just swap engines. Jeramie
Re: So Much For KIA! Actually William, I found a new engine on ebay yesterday (with less then 20k) for roughly $800. It would be cheaper to buy a used engine then to change the timing belt. I know there is still labor involved but what do you do..... Btw, I found a guy (on the net) yesterday in Indiana who is a KIA Dealer and changes belts for $299! These morons are making over $1,000 more. And Yes, I do Maintain my cars. I change the oil, plugs, filters, etc on a regular basis. Who would of thought that a car I bought from a dealer would need such extensive work in roughly 12k miles. wtnhunt
Re: So Much For KIA! Dont know Jeramie, I never use dealers for automotive mechanic work. They charge entirely too much. Got a good mechanic here that owns and works on his own race cars and he has his own shop, he stays covered up and the waits for him to do work for you can be long, but he does good work and for about half the cost the dealerships do or less. Can trust his work too.

And I dont think you have a timing belt in you pontiac you have a chain. If you have a four cylinder quad 4 the only pontiac that had a belt was the front wheel drive lemans and the t1000 Unless you have the x motor then AHHH!!! I realy feel bad for you then. That is a 100k belt

craig mack
Re: So Much For KIA! KIA's are garbage. My aunt buys their junk, and always ask me if I like her car, to which I immediatly say heck no!!! I work for Chrysler (UAW) so you know I'm a little biased. Her car breaks down all the time. I just laugh at her and say Korea thanks her for her support.
