Which fletching jig?

I am going to buy a fletching jig, but I can't decide which one. I have used the BPE (the plastic bitzenburger), I thought it worked great. I have also used the Jo-Jan, but don't like that the clamps don't have any markings on them for consistent vane placement. And then there is the bitzenburger, high priced. Is it worth it?

What do you use? I welcome pros and cons of any.

Re: Which fletching jig?

Thanks for all the input. I'm wondering if anybody has used the grayling that hutchies is using and the bitzenburger. They are basically the exact same thing, one is aluminum and one is plastic. Why would you spend $60 when you could spend$20. What are the advantages of the bitzenburger over the plastic jobs that are built the same.

i use the jo jan for short small fletches (blazers, mini blazers and flex fletch)...i just dont like the magnet on the bitz it always grabs right when i dont want it to. plus the cut on the clamp is a perfect distance to start your vanes at.

Re: Which fletching jig?

I have never used the one Hutchies has. But just from thinking about it. I would imagine the Bitzenburger has the weight to make it free standing better. I know mine, all I need to do is stand it up! I am a fletching fool then!

What rest are you using? Because you might want to make a decision as too what helical to use. Since I use a Whisker Biscuit, my fletching is done 2-3 degrees right offset.

Re: Which fletching jig?

I plan on mounting it to a table, weight is not a real concern. I use a fall-away and blazers. I have used one similar to hutchies and you can do straight, offset, all the way to a radical helical. I just haven't been convinced that the cheapy won't do all the bitzenburger will for 1/3 of the price.

Thanks for all your input.

Re: Which fletching jig?

You can get fairly aggressive with the offset using a simple straight clamp if thats what you want to do.

I learned how to fletch with a NON-BITZ but what do I know since its all I've ever used grin.gif

I dont mind taking the time to do one fletching at a time since I'm not doing this as a business and speed is a factor that I want in arrow flight not fletching. I'm using a Grayling jig, mounted on a homemade box that holds everything in it, with a straight clamp and achieve this:

Re: Which fletching jig?

I am going to buy the Grayling. I've checked them both out on the internet and can find no solid difference other than materials. Some websites even say you can use bitz clamps on grayling jig and grayling clamps on bitz jigs.

Grayling it is.....Thanks everybody.
