billkay
Re: ***Blown ear drum, I am miserable**** You need to get "Ear Wicks" from the doctor or a pharmacy. They are very thin foam thingies that will get into the base of the ear and draw the drops down with them where they can actually work. They're cheap but can be tough to find. Once they are in place and the medecine added, they expand and keep the drugs in. They are put in place with tweezers so your wife will need to do it. Make sure she isn't ticked at you at the moment. Good luck.

Rhino
Re: ***Blown ear drum, I am miserable**** WOW Al!! That's not going to get better overnight. Stick with the medication and I sure hope the pain subsides soon. I have a close friend that put a tube in one of his ears after having the same problem and he's 55 years old. He avoided the tear you have to deal with but he still has to deal with the drainage.

Reloader
Re: ***Blown ear drum, I am miserable**** Well don't know if you are even checking this one any more, but I had the same problem almost 2 years ago now. Ruptured my ear drum at my desk at work, got to the doctor the next morning and was back at my desk the next afternoon. Not that I wanted to be there, but the company I worked for woulda fired me for taking any longer (don't ask Id rather stay off that soap box right now)..... I am not a big fan of narcotic pain relievers I just go up to the max dose of the OTC stuff and then mix types till it works. I had to take 4 Advil (800mg total) and 2 Aleve at the same time then the swelling would go down enough to get the drops in there and the pain would subside. Chech with your doctor but I have been told by mine that Aleve, Tylenol and Advil make great combinations, take 2 Aleve every 8 hours and 4 Advil every 4 hours and the Extra Strength Tylenol every 4 but overlap the Advill and Tylenol so you are taking one or the other every 2 hours. That should take care of the pain and swelling so the drops can get in and do their job. Just don't do it for more than a few days or your liver/kidneys will hate you... Good luck and I hope that you are starting to feel better.
Leo
Re: ***Blown ear drum, I am miserable**** I know you don't feel this way now. But be very very thankful the infection blew out the eardrum and didn't go the other direction. It's rare, but if an inner ear infection goes into your brain it can most certainly KILL you. Ear infections aren't anything to toy with. Everyone should take them seriously. I blew out both eardrums in my accident 3 yrs ago. Besides my many other injuries I incurred. The diagnosis was I would be completely deaf in one ear and have hardly any hearing ability in the other. Miraculously, both eardrums healed. I can hear normally except for tinnitus (ringing) in my left ear. So keep the faith. It still counts as one of my most painful experiences. When they removed the plug of blood and wax from one ear. Dramamine helps alot with the dizziness and vertigo associated with inner ear problems. Your doctor may have prescribed "Anti-Vert". Same thing as Dramamine. dartonman
Re: ***Blown ear drum, I am miserable**** **UPDATE** went to the doctors office yesterday, he finally got me in...thanks doc, anyway...the total ear canal has swelled to about 96 percent closer...put me on the strongest steroid antibiotic drops made (Cipro) twice a day for seven days, he told me that the eardrum has great protection from reinjury, and the Cipro should work for me, I still have the spins a bit, but the pain has subsided a bit, he also put me on an oral med called Azithromycin...it killed the pain, and most of the "inner" ear problems so far, now my ear canal is the issue, along with the torn eardrum........thanks for ALL your help and prayers.......al

Smitteken
Re: ***Blown ear drum, I am miserable**** My brother had that happen. When it happened if he would hold his nose closed and blow to put pressure on his ear canal. His ear made a buzzing sound. It was the wierdest thing I'd ever heard are seen. Me on the other hand. I had a moth fly into my ear when I was camping a few years ago. It was alive and flapping around for 12 hours. It really felt like there was an elephant in my head. I had to go to the ER to get it removed. It was stuck to my ear drum. Good luck
