[/ QUOTE ] Obviously you didn't attend UGA [/ QUOTE ] hmmm...passing out because you've had to much fun at a bar or passing out because your body is over-heating and your nervous, circulatory, and digestive systems are reacting...I see the similarities. ParrotHead
Re: Killing our kids [ QUOTE ] The school boards are now getting involved completely from a legal defense standpoint because many of these coaches aren't self-regulating like Parrothead. The kids won't do it or aren't educated enough....look at the completely assonine things teens will do that get them killed or close to it. You can't leave it to a machismo teen to sit himself out if he feels bad. It looks like we are heading to some common sense changes around here. [/ QUOTE ] New - the school board can't even secure the need to teach our kids to read and write and you're counting on them now to "protect" them from dying? I'll admit it, you put a lot more faith in the school system than I do. Doing a little research on this right now and will check back when I'm done. superguide
Re: Killing our kids I know for a fact that highschool coaches can get away with alot more than we can as minor hockey coaches. If I pulled some of the crap that goes on in school sports I'd get run off the ice. That being said I don't think the kids that are committed athletes now a days are any weaker than when we played-every 40 something thinks he was all that back in the day. As far as practicing kids till they puke-it's probably doing more for the coaches ego than the good of the athletes-if a kid shows up in too poor a shape to play-cut him-don't kill him. Or better yet run the drills with your players-what's good for the goose is good for the gander.
longhorn57
Re: Killing our kids When I was playing about 4 years ago it was always hot but we practived in the morning for 4 hours and had a 10 min water break about every 30 or 40 min. We never had anybody get heat stroke a few players that were out of shape is puke but they did that no matter the temp outside. I think the coaches no when to call it quits and if you wanted water before the break time you got water and a break.
Guest MizzouHunter6
Re: Killing our kids I just graduated so this will be my first summer without football practice and I must say, I feel sorry for some of my friends who still play. They ARE still practicing in the 105 degree heat here and it is a tad bit ridiculous. We never received any sympathy for "the heat". I guess its going to take some kid to drop on the practice field before they realize something aint right. Winning is so important I guess....just a former players two cents.
