Guest cnymike
i know that you should scout the night before a morning hunt to see where the geese are feeding, but what about scouting for an afternoon hunt. i don't get to go out in the mornings much. Exturkinator
Re: afternoon goose I've found later in the day geese will be moving back from their feeding grounds to their roosting areas - so for us the patterns are pretty much the reverse of what they were earlier in the day. But I think it is a lot harder to the get the geese to come down for a look later in the afternoon than it is earlier in the day - still haven't learned any good tricks for this. Guest hunter101
Re: afternoon goose i usually just hunt the roosting areas in the evenings that has seemed to work the best for me over the last 2 yrs
DU_man_84
Re: afternoon goose afternoons i try and hunt the fields but if im not and on the water im with hunter101, i hunt where they roost for the night and that normally does it, though on clear nights they normally come back too late but cloudy nights are pretty good
Guest cnymike
Re: afternoon goose if you hunt their roost, don't you risk scaring them off for a while and ruining the roosting spot?
DU_man_84
Re: afternoon goose when we hunt thier roost we are very careful about it, we try and get the limit in the first flock or wish for doubles and singles, but we always try and get out of there as fast as possible and if we do get swarmed buy flocks of geese we will wait until way after dark to pick up so we do not educate birds, i really dont hunt many afternoons but when i do it has been a spot i have been hunting for about 6 years and the geese are always there they just want leave the spot alone
gitcha_some
Re: afternoon goose youd be surprised...a lot of geese will head back to the roost around mid day then return to the fields in the afternoons for a quick bite before roosting time
