wtnhunt
Pretty sure my blower motor on our heat and air unit is going out. The unit is going on 11 years now, and had to replace the condensor fan motor last year, so maybe it is time for the blower motor to give out too. It has been making some noise, kind of sounds like a never ending cricket so long as the unit is running, guessing the bearings are wearing out? Think I can change it out myself fairly easily if I can find a replacement, just dont really want to wait for it to go down with the heat the way it has been this summer. Just got to figure out where to try to find a new motor. There is a grainger about 45 minutes from here, would they be likely to have a replacement? Anyone any suggestions? Jeramie
Re: AC blower motor-any hvac techs? Im not an HVAC guy but I do have some experience with them. There really isnt much that can move in the Return air. Id guess your berrings are going out too. It shouldnt be to bad to fix. An HVAC guy just changed ours (although it didnt need it). He only charged us $25 for everything and then later said, "Never Mind." We actually didnt have to pay a penny (although we offered MANY times). We bought ours at Locke Supply. I bet Grainger has them. If you dont want to make the drive id just order it. It shouldnt take more then a couple of days to come in. BowtechTurkeyHunter
Re: AC blower motor-any hvac techs? The motors aren't to bad to change ... the chirping is probably the bearing but its probably the aquirell cage chirping and the bearings there ... its probably not the motor take your front off the furnace where the blower is and you should see the fan blade see if there is any wiggle in it if there is that is your problem ... usually when a motor goes out it is really slow to start up and kinda makes a grinding noise ... the squirell fan ... called that because it looks like a wheel a swuirell would run in .... is pretty common but you have to get the exact one for your furnace size does matter ... grainger should be able to get that for you also and I believe if you talk tot he guy at the counter he will confirm what I am telling you ... the other way to tell if its your motor is to remove the fan from the motor and then run the motor if the chirping stops then you know its the blad and not the motor if its still there well then its the motor. the blade should be pretty easy to remove with some oil and a small crecent wrench. Hope this helps. Steve
wtnhunt
Re: AC blower motor-any hvac techs? Thanks for the help, dont think there is a belt. The chirping is getting worse and the sound comes through the two closest registers. Will pull it apart some time this weekend and try to check the bearing and at least get some information off the motor.
bulldawg
Re: AC blower motor-any hvac techs? I'd pull it out and blow it out first. See if there is anyplace where you can add a little WD-40 too...lol. Dawg
