tc2506
been thinking about a switch,,anyone tried 1 these yet? how accurate are they? I already shoot the 26" would be worth it to try the prohunter 28"? ,,thanks Jim
257bob
Re: encore 25/06 prohunter barrel I would get the 28" and then rechamber it for 25-06 Ackley Improved. My dad has that cartridge in a custom bolt rifle and it is pushing a 95 grain bullet about 3600 fps with a barrel just slightly over 27". It probably won't make much difference in the standard 25-06. tc2506
Re: encore 25/06 prohunter barrel Thanks for your reply, but i dont handload , so i gotta stick with factory ammo.I,m not really onsidering this for velocity, mostly just for accuracy
257bob
Re: encore 25/06 prohunter barrel I doubt you'll see any difference in accuracy at all.
AJ
Re: encore 25/06 prohunter barrel Longer barrel do not mean more accuracy. Usually they give less accuracy as the barrel can oscillate more during the shot. If you have 2 barrels exactly the same the shorter one will usually be more accurate. There can be some differences when you step up to some of the large overbore cartridges, but with standard cartridges, it holds pretty true. Now in a factory gun, 257bob said it right, you will not see any difference in accuracy. They are still chambered with a corn cob on a hand drill so you roll the dice. BTW, you can not re-chamber a 25-06 Encore to a 25-06 AI. The barrel has to be set back to get the full shoulder and keep headspacing correct for use with parent ammo.
