257bob
Re: exercises? Great advice Arrow. It's amazing how much strength you will gain in shooting a dozen arrows a day for a couple weeks.
Tony
Re: exercises? try this.. shoot your normal amount of arrows each time you shoot. then after you are done shooting, make 10 extra shots. draw your bow and see how long you can hold it. when your shaking too bad, let down rest for a min and then draw again unitl you complete your extra 10 shots. on off days doing the draw until you can hold any longer will work. but i have to ask ? why are you wanting to add poundage ? with todays modern bows and the differant kinds of arrows out there you should be able to set any arrow up from 50 lbs draw weight to 70 lbs and they will all do the job great. remember that poundage doesnt kill deer, accuracy with a super sharp broadhead does... Stinger-Hunter
Re: exercises? Keep practicing and then notch it up 5 lbs and a time for a few weeks. Lifting weights won't help much. I let a few cops shoot my bow (64lbs) last year and they could hardly pull it back. They were weightlifters. The answer to Tony's question is simple. faster arrow flight means the deer will have less time to react to the sound of the shot, which leads to cleaner kills (applies to 30-40 yard shots). Also there is less trajectory on 30-40 yards, which means the chance of missing is less.
hunterfisherman
Re: exercises? When I can get out to shoot I stand in the middle of the bedroom and pull my bow back and hold it drawn for 30 seconds. Then I let it down and I do that 10 times. that way you still get the motion and workout on days you may not be able to shoot. My doctor is a big bow hunter and when I suffered a shoulder injury he told me to do that to get back in bow hunting shape
