just wondering you guys opinions on what weight heads to use for whiteails, its for my boys new mathews mustang its 40lb draw weight 24inch draw length and using 22inch goldtip35/55s, local pro shop said 100grains, he has been shooting the 100grs out to 20yds this week and it shoots great, but that just seems like to much weight to me, any help would be appreciated

Re: what weight heads

i would try 85's as 257bob said...i like that choice...i personally have a martian jaguar bow with a 58 lbs pull and a 28 inch draw length... i use 100 grain broadheads and field tips. i can honestly say i have never killed a deer with them but i've never shot at one either...i have 100 grain G5 tekan 2's. my shop pro uses them and he suggested i would like them too... good luck on your choice...

Re: what weight heads

On a 40 lb. bow keep that arrow as heavy as possible. If they are flying good now and there isn't any spine issues or FOC issues with the 100 grain head then keep shooting them. If by some chance 125's still left him properly spined, then go with the 125's because not only will it boost the weight giving him added penetration, but it will also boost his FOC.

In my opinion switching to anything lighter than he is at right now is only asking for trouble in the event he hits bone.

His set up will be alot more effective using a heavy arrow as opposed to backing down weight and trying to gain speed wink.gif
