wtnhunt
Re: which scope Welcome to the forums. Really depends on how much you want to spend. Honestly, personally I would not go with either of those scopes.
David_218
Re: which scope I've had very poor results with Tasco brand scopes. You need to buy either a Leupold, Weaver, or Redfield 3 to 9 power scope.
snapper
Re: which scope Gotta agree with the others...I have the Tasco 6-24 varmint on a .22-250 varmint gun. It works...not crystal clear...but does work. I wouldn't put that scope on my .270...don't think it would hold up to the recoil. Save some $ and buy a better scope than Tasco or Barska. Upper end Bushnell (3200/4200), Nikons, Leupolds etc...
ousoonerfan22
Re: which scope I've been seeing some nice deals on Burris scopes on ebay.I would like to have the Burris fullfield II 4.5-14x42 to go on my new remington .204 rifle. huntinsonovagun
Re: which scope To be honest, I can't complain about my simmons 44mag. 6.5-20x Not the clearest scope, but it holds zero and allows me to shoot sub-MOA. For a $100 scope, I'm pleased. Look into the Nikon Prostaff. I was blown away at the clarity and eye relief. These can be found for $150 new (and possibly cheaper online somewhere). Be sure to check out www.natchezss.com for the best prices anywhere.
Guest EAGLE
Re: which scope ive always had good results from tasco got a 4-12 x42 on an o6 5 years now and going strong. had bushnell 3 scopes 3 returns 1 even fogged up every time the temp dropped. burris nikon and leupold are way to costely. the rifle has a 4-12 why would i want a 3-9 . a 9 power is not enough to really pick your shot at 500 plus yards. AJ
Re: which scope If you are trying to set up a gun for 500+ yards, you had better be getting a very good piece of glass. Of course this will be on your custom gun so price should not be that big of an object. I am curious, just what are you intending on shooting at 500+ yards? 257bob
Re: which scope Agree with AJ. You can't be looking at low end scopes for that kind of shooting. I have a 5.5-16.5x44 Nikon Monarch and it is a good scope, but by no means high end. There are a lot of good scopes out there. I have been impressed with Burris, Nikon, Leupold, Zeiss, and the Bushnell (4200 series only). Spend as much or more on your optics as you did on your rifle. rifleman25
Re: which scope Told ya on another forum (BT) that nobody would recomend tasco. I am wondering what you plan to shoot at 500 yards. I live in Western SD and have hunted nebraska, SD and Wyoming all my life. I have only seen one shot over 400 taken by a hunter. Shooting those distances at game animals is a little on the irresponsible side and I believe very few hunters are capable of those shots with a production gun. Either way if you are a bench rest shooter or a long range hunter why would you want to buy that low end stuff. I wouldn't use anything but Zeiss or Leupold on my rifles. I don't want to take any chances on a once in a lifetime shot.

Guest PixelDoctor
Re: which scope I shoot a Weaver 6x24-42mm Varmint scope on my 220 swift, and I have no problems shooting 350-400 yards plus... Weaver makes a great scope with a great warranty

Washi
Re: which scope Please do not buy a Tasco. Between my brother and I we have had five give out on us in the last three years. Barska I can't say because I haven't owned one but they seem kinda cheap. The scopes I have had the best luck with are the higher end Simmons. Only had one of the Walmart special Simmons go bad. The Aetec and Whitetail model Simmons I have have been great. I don't agree with the whole, "Spend as much on the scope as you do the gun." thing that people say. But I do believe that the cheapest scopes are mostly worthless.

If I am going west on an elk hunt where I my shot distance is lengthened. I want a scope that is known to handle recoil on the bigger guns, has great light gathering and clarity for shooting at dawn/dusk. Espeically if I had to make any windage changes where I need to be able to move back the scope back to where it normally is. Other then that most burris, nikon, leupold etc... will work for taking deer at reasonable distances. I still prefer to have 87%+ light transmission.
