Guest DIESEL40
I really enjoy squirrel hunting but don't have much time to go. If you guys could post when you notice them starting to cut and what kind of nuts they are cutting and what area you guys are in, it would help me know when I need to go out. like i said i don't have much time so I don't get to keep an eye on when they start. thanks. Tominator
Re: Squirrels cutting in your area yet? Ohiobucks and I set his trail camera Saturday and I did not see any cuttings, but I did see a few hickory nuts on the ground.
David_218
Re: Squirrels cutting in your area yet? We have very few Hickory nuts or Walnuts this year. Last year the trees were loaded. However the Oaks seem to have a good crop of acorns. I've seen very few Squirrels though. I Squirrel hunt in a woods about 60 miles north of my home. It might be a different story up there. Squirrelhunter91
Re: Squirrels cutting in your area yet? I'm certainly seeing plenty of acorns on the ground, but not anything cut yet. They will be very soon.

Turkeygirl
Re: Squirrels cutting in your area yet? I haven't been in the woods lately but I suspect some of the squirrels are starting to cut as they usually do around now in previous years. My season starts September 1 and when I go out on the 1st, I usually find chewed hickory nuts and Beech nuts
Guest DIESEL40
Re: Squirrels cutting in your area yet? Our season started on Aug. 1, but I don't go much until toward the end of the month.
Guest DIESEL40
Re: Squirrels cutting in your area yet? I got out this morning a harvested three. They were all starting to test the hickory's. Not to much action, they were not moving much yet and not to many cut hull on the ground. I believe they are on the verge though, my only concern is that it doesn't look like there are very many nuts. We are in a drought right now and I don't think the mast crops took it very well.
