Re: Woodsmoke for cover scent?

I've always been afraid to have smoke scent on me. Seems like every single time I am out hunting and the guy down the road is burning leaves.......I see NOTHING.

Of course........maybe they were all drawn to the smoke at HIS place. confused.gifsmirk.gif

Re: Woodsmoke for cover scent?

maybe it depends on how smokey you get, i was hunting in goshen va one yr with some friends and it was raining like you wouldnt beleave, we had a bon fire you could have seen two counties over we stood out there and the smoke got all over me, the next morning, the ogrange jacket i had smelt so bad of smoke it was choking me, when i got to my location i was going to hunt i had to take it off, i put it about 60 yards from a trail i had see about 10 does on the day before, the wind was blowing down hill and all i heard at day light was a lot of blowing, and they never came up the trail, so it didnt work for me

As the wildfires are torching parts of Montana again, I can say that smelling like smoke is very effective.  There are days that the smoke is so thick I doubt the critters can smell much else anyway.  Even the smoke poring in from several states away gives a background scent that blending in with is a good idea.  If fires are a rare occurrence and mostly associated with humans in your area it is probably not a good idea.  Same goes for farm smells.
