ladydiehard
I'm a small framed average weight woman currently shooting 40lb draw weight comfortably. Even my hold time is pretty good at this weight. However...I'd like to increase this to 50lb. so that I would feel comfortable shooting beyond 30 yards. Even with lots of practice, it doesn't seem to make the 40lbs any easier to pull and although shoulder pain diminishes to simply mild discomfort, the shoulder never feels completely normal even after consistent use. So...my question is, are there specific exercises that will help strengthen the muscles used when shooting a bow, ultimately making it possible for me to increase draw weight? And maybe help my shoulder discomfort a bit too?
hutchies
Re: Increasing draw weight Funny you asked. I saw something on Double Bull the other day that was like a rubber band that you use to strengthen the muscles you draw with. I will see if I can find it. Tominator
Re: Increasing draw weight I would think any kind of deltoid and tricep workout would help.
hutchies
Re: Increasing draw weight This was like a huge rubberband that you could cinch up to create the effect of drawing more weight. They were using it in his living room.
Guest BowHunter81
Re: Increasing draw weight just remember that you want a weight that yu are comfortable with and dont have to strain to pull it. The workouts that Hutchies told you about is good, but also you can do push ups and that really helps out alot.
ladydiehard
Re: Increasing draw weight Seems like I've heard something about the rubberband thing. I've always been told that regular exercises won't help cause a bow uses different muscles.
Guest BowHunter81
Re: Increasing draw weight a bow uses mostly your chest muscle, shoulder muscle, and your upper back muscle, which in turn is what a pushup mostly covers, so in ending it will help your situation, but maybe not as good as the rubberband thing, but u can get the rubberband thing out of, i believe its the redhead catalog 06 archery and i dont know about cabelas
VtBowhunter
Re: Increasing draw weight If you have the money, get yourself a back tension release and practice with that.......it will condition those muscles to get you up in draw weight with a regular release.
