Re: Weirdest thing you\'ve ever seen while hunting?

The weirdest thing I've ever seen in the woods while hunting would be in the middle of no-where, on public hunting grounds, once I came across a very old and very large tree with nothing but hand-made bird houses hanging from every single branch. There isn't roads nor houses within a good distance of the area. I thought it was pretty neat and weird at the same time. Was expecting banjo music to start playing at some point. wink.gif

Another funny and strange thing that happened to me was this past May during Spring Gobbler season. I tried hunting from a blind for the first time instead of just sitting by a tree. I setup my blind in the dark and as the sun broke a big owl flew over and landed on a branch right next to my blind and stuck his head in my window to look at me. Talk about making me jump at first. The owl the whole time I sat in the blind flew away and would come back to a different window each time and try to peek inside it. I don't think he could see me and might been considering making my blind his home. Either that or he was curious or angry at my choice of blind location. grin.gif

About twenty years ago while hunting a farm Steve (buckee) had gotten permission to hunt on for half a season.

Steve had shot a young buck near the end of a field and i was hunting about 400 yards away in the bush. Just after Steve shot i had a doe show up but it was getting to dark in the woods to shoot so i let the doe walk, but she didn't leave when i got up to leave she followed me like a faithful dog.She followed me out to the trail where i waited for Steve and his son to see what they had gotten. When Steve and Troy showed up this doe was still there. As we walked back to the vehicle dragging the dead buck and talking, the doe followed close behind us the whole way, and didn't leave until we drove off.

Someone must have been hand feeding it

Yeah, I forgot about that Ken. That was weird.

Remember that doe walked right between us on the way out too, and we were only a few yards apart. That thing would have climbed into the back of the pick-up, if we asked it too grin.gif

Would have been a good one to knife there Sherm. grin.gif

Three years ago I was hunting in Marion County indiana (Indianapolis) during bow season. i usually stalked for the last 45 minutes of my hunt (before work).

I found myself staring at 4 wild dogs coming right at me. I made some noise so that they would see me and take off, but the lead dog saw me and immediately continued toward me growling. The other dogs followed his lead. I shot him in the chest and immediately knocked another arrow and was about to shoot the second dog, which was still coming at me. After some yelping and rolling around from the first dog, he finally took off and the others followed.

I waited 5 minutes before following the blood trail. I found the dog laying down and barely breathing in a drainage tunnel that ran underneath a road which led to a highschool about 100 yards away. The dog saw me and hobbled up to the road (after losing about 1 1/2 gallons of blood (it was a lot, more than any deer I've ever shot).

I heard a car door open and then close from someone driving to the highschool. When I went up to see where the dog was, there was no sign of it.

I saw the other 3 dogs again several times that year, but never the one that I shot.

Very scary!!!!

I saw something on TV about wild dogs chasing deer. In some cases they hunt like wolves and wear the deer down and kill it. You should ax the other three dogs before they do any damage. I would.
