just curious what everybody thinks of albino deer. i watched pat reeve's new show driven 24/7 and they seem to feature a couple of different albino bucks occassionally and i was able to find a picture of one of them on www.whitetailworld.com . this buck is huge. i was always under the impression that albinoes are inferior and are bad for the herd. what are your opinions? i will try to post a picture if i can.

Re: albino buck

The only thng an albino or even pie-bald genes do is make it harder for deer to evade or hide from predators. From what I understand they are in everyway the same except in coloring.

This is why its so rare to see mature albino deer cause most of them are spotted by predators early in life and just dont make it.

Actually albino genes only cause the deer to be white but otherwise healthy.

Piebald genes are actually inferior and bad in several ways. Piebald genes make the deer less healthy. Piebald genes are usually caused by inbreeding.

Piebalds should always be removed from the herd ASAP. Albinos are up to you (or your state) whether you want to shoot or not.

correct me if Im wrong but that buck is a piebald.

Albinos are completely white, with pink eyes and hoofs. Looks to me like that deer has brown spot between his antlers. Which would make him a piebald

BUt regardless of that WOW what a deer. shocked.gif

Looks albino to me. Pink nose and all. I think that brown on the forehead might be from rubbing trees. confused.gif Don't really know.
