huntinsonovagun
Anyone have/used one? Sportsman's Guide has them for $119, which is a great buy compared to Bass Pro's $179. The Sportsman's Guide version has a gun rest/foot rest, which the Bass Pro version doesn't. Anyway, what are your opinions on the stand? Any squeaks, etc? I had my mind set up to buy a Summit, but for $150 less, and basically the same design, I figured I could do without the quick connects. The Gorilla seemed to be just as solid as the Summit, same weight, and the Gorilla looks like it folds flat, but I'm not completely sure of that. Anyway, let me know what you know. wtnhunt
Re: Gorrilla Greyback Climber Have looked at Gorilla stands in cabelas catalogs, wal mart is carrying some of their stands now too here. They look to me to be good stands.
Jeramie
Re: Gorrilla Greyback Climber Yeah, the walmart in pryor has one for 100 and some. I think its the same one and may actually be cheaper. Call them Ryan. Now personally, I would stick with the Summit because of the quick connect. I saw in the latest Cabellas catalog they have a small Summit for about the same price as the Gorrilla. For the same money id go, hands down, with the summit. Fighting those stupid cables in the dark is way to much of a pain.
MUDRUNNER
Re: Gorrilla Greyback Climber As far as I know they should be good stands. They are basically an Ole'Man stand, which was THE stand to have a few years ago.I've used them a few times, and they were light and pretty comfortable, and do fold down.$119 sounds like a pretty good deal. huntinsonovagun
Re: Gorrilla Greyback Climber Ok, the summit's cost $250+, the API's cost $229 and weigh 4 pounds more. I will check on the Gorilla climbers at wal-mart, but I suspect they're steel and weigh about 25+ pounds. I'm trying to find a balance here, being in college and all, and I just have not been impressed with API, Summit's quick connect are great, but for $150 more?!?!?!?! That's why I feel the Gorilla may be the one for me.....I'll do some more checking though......
GWSmith
Re: Gorrilla Greyback Climber The Gander Mountain store I was at recently had a Gorrilla Climber for $128 I think. They bought out Ol'Man Treestands and this stand looked just like one of them except the arms that fold down were more square and the Ol'Man stands folding arms were round. Jeramie
Re: Gorrilla Greyback Climber Ryan, Ryan! Not $150 more man! I have the new BP catalog and the Cabella's behind me right now in my office. I just looked up Summit stands for you. All but one were around 18-20lbs. Here is what ive come up with. Bass Pro----> Grand Slam Extreme Bowhunter $219 Cabela’s----> Summit Python $199 Summit Openshot $199 Summit Bushmaster $
Jeramie
Re: Gorrilla Greyback Climber Actually I just read, the openshot is 14lbs! The only thing is that the Platform is 4" smaller. For the money id be looking at the Bushmaster. Its 18lbs! Thats awesome. The old climber I bought a few years ago was over 30lbs....
huntinsonovagun
Re: Gorrilla Greyback Climber I have seen those, but I'm really more interested in the stand-up/sit-down style. Not only easier, but safer. The Gorilla weighs 19lbs as well. Man, if that Bushmaster had the front rail, I'd get it. I'll wait a while and see what I think later on......Really don't want an API though....
toddyboman
Re: Gorrilla Greyback Climber i have had an ol'man for several years and really like it. Which is now the gorrilla brand. I have no complaints with it, easy to use, quite and safe.
Guest La_Biologist
Re: Gorrilla Greyback Climber I used the Gorrilla Greyback last season. I really like it. I've used several of the stands mentioned above and to me the Greyback is the safest. Don't let the rope seat fool you, it is rather comfy. johnf
Re: Gorrilla Greyback Climber The Gorrilla's at wal-mart are 24lbs if I'm not mistaken. Even for the extra money I would get a summit.
Guest ib4au
Re: Gorrilla Greyback Climber Our wal-Mart had one of the "Wolverine" climbers left, so I put one on lay-away until pay day. At 24 lbs it might be a little heavy, but I got it for 100 bucks tax and all. I would have loved to have one of the Summits, but for the money i think the Gorilla will be worth it. My uncle has an ol' man that he used to let me borrow. I loved everything about it except that it had the gun/foot rest front and it was a little too open for me. The one at wal-mart has the bar across the front so I really like that. Also, it comes with a back-pad that bungees to the tree which i thought was nice. My unc's didnt have that and the ol back got sore without any padding between me and the tree. As soon as I get the ol' boy, I'll give ya a review of it. ruttinbuc
Re: Gorrilla Greyback Climber You get what you pay for. A good tree stand is something you normally only need to buy once. Find one that is going to fit all of your needs and buy it. I paid the price for a Lone Wolf hand climbing model and could not be happier with my decision. Get what you want and don't look back. Guest ib4au
Re: Gorrilla Greyback Climber You're absolutely right. Problem is, not everyone(myself for one) can afford a Lone Wolf.
