Scent Lok/Scent Blocker...

Are they worth the money and do they really work and whats the differnce between scent lok and scent blocker...

I personally have never owned one and to tell you the truth they are pretty pricey.

I have always hunted with out one and have killed my fair share of deer and other game by going through all the scent free steps that I can.

Anyway I have always wondered about them and thought I would ask to see if they are really worth it...

Re: Scent Lok/Scent Blocker...

I have never used one, and honestly don't believe they're all that they're cracked up to be. Yes, carbon has odor-absorbing capabilities, but I think it can absorb only so much. When you "re-condition" it in the dryer, I don't think you're really doing anything.....carbon has to get MUCH hotter than any household dryer can get, and actually has to get much hotter than the material can withstand.

I'm sure it works to an extent, but there is nothing as effective as playing the wind. To me, it's not worth the money.....

Re: Scent Lok/Scent Blocker...

It's out of my price range. I use the soap and all that stuff and then cover scents. I've been busted a few times but so has everyone else. I saw Lee Lakowski( sorry about the spelling) get busted in head to toe scent lok. The dude was a walking billboard for them and still got busted so I think you can't become invisable no matter what. I have no doubt it helps but that help comes at a price that I can't afford.

Re: Scent Lok/Scent Blocker...

As with everything it is not an absolute. It does work to supress your scent more than non-scent control clothing. You must keep the outside of the garment scent free and you must reactivate the carbon, which is basically cleaning out the carbon filter.

It does work, but you can't get careless. Like mo hunter and huntin' said, playing the wind is crucial whether you have scent control clothing or not.

It's not like locking yourself in a plastic baggy or something but it will help.

As you can tell I am a believer. I have seen it work and work well.

Re: Scent Lok/Scent Blocker...

Dont know Dale, what I do know is that I can get pretty darned close without any scent blocking suits. I am a bit skeptical as to how effective the suits would really be, but hey if they can boost a hunters confidence guess that is good for them. This topic has had some pretty good debate over the years. I have never tried any of the suits personally, and unless they get a lot cheaper, will not be trying them any time soon. Seeing as how my scent management procedures have been working well over the years, will continue using them.

Play the wind.....

Ive never owned one either but I keep my clothes hanging outside during season. I also use the carbon soap, etc. Ive never had a problem. I think ive only been busted once in many, many years.

They are very pricey and quite honestly, I can find better hunting stuff to spend money on.

Re: Scent Lok/Scent Blocker...

Just remember that we (Scent-Lok) ALWAYS suggest using the suit in a total regime. That includes soaps and following our guidelines by gettin dressed in the field, properly re-generating the suit etc. This will definately increase you chances and lower the amount of odor being dispersed around you stand area. In addition, most people who get busted tell us after we investigate that they did two thiings. Didn't wear a headcover or subjected the suit to extended periods without regeneration.

As for the difference between Blocker and Us, personal preference is what matters. We (Scent-Lok Technologies) license the technology to Blocker in the same way we license Cabela's, Bass Pro etc. However all of these companies make slightly different products when it comes to features (pockets, tailoring, zippers). So the best thing to do is go to a retailer and try them on for yourself. Find what fits good and decide if it is right for you. Also, ask the salespeople what they recommend. They see products move in and out everyday and can also clue you into what ones are made the best for you.

Re: Scent Lok/Scent Blocker...

I wear a ScentBlocker suit, from head to toe, like Jackie Bushman says in the Nikon commercial, "when your hunting whitetails, you better stack the odds in your favor"

I still play the wind and watch my hygiene and what I touch and do before the hunt. Yes, it is pricey but then again you will see guys drop $700.00 on a new bow and could care less about their hunting clothes.

I use it. It is alittle more expensive than regular camo, but I believe it helps me to get me closer to deer. Ask Chris, the closer the deer the better for me. grin.gif I have had deer straight downwind from me and never know I was there. cool.gif

That is why my family eats hot dogs and macaroni until I bag a deer, so I can afford the ScentLok and the $700 bow..... grin.gif

See Waddell and several other hunting pros that endorse scent control clothing who rarely ever are seen wearing a head cover. Why is it they can get by without the TOTAL scent elimination system when you make the claims that you cannot forget the headcover or your system will not be as effective?

Have deer to come in on my downwind side pretty well every year. Have never used any scent eliminating or controlling suit. Again if it makes the hunter more conifdent and they can afford it more power to them, but I will remain a skeptic.

Re: Scent Lok/Scent Blocker...

I have started to accumulate some scent blocker stuff. I am convinced that the clearance stuff at Wal-Mart is not worth spending my money on. I save my money and buy the quality clothing. Just like anything else, you get what you pay for. With the upper end clothing you get better comfort and technology.
