NEMOdeerhunter
Last year we planted sunflowers for dove hunting and mowed thema about a week before season. We had really good luck but I want to make sure we do it right this year. Our season opens sep 1 like most other places, so when should I start mowing them? Should I mow a little at a time or all at once? Should I have any left standing on opening day. Thanks
Tominator
Re: Question about sunflowers for doves We mow all of ours off about 2 weeks before the season. We only plant about 3 acres of them though.
huntinguide
Re: Question about sunflowers for doves we mow ours off in stages one by one a week at a time. We disc around our strips then burn the stubble, then when it gets time we brush hog and burn one at a time. We burnt our stubble 3 weeks ago and our first strips are going this week. working really well so far thousands of birds going to be a busy opener this year. Texan_Til_I_Die
Re: Question about sunflowers for doves Don't shred 'em until they're ripe and ready to drop seeds. Then, depending on how big your field is, try doing it a little bit at a time. I also like to leave a few strips standing for cover to hide me.
