tclubbs2
I went to Bass Pro yesterday to buy me a new bow. I just want to tell all the parents how happy I was to see you taking your children and buying them a bow. I saw about 6 kids (12 and under) getting fitted for a bow( not to count the teens that were there). I work in a position that I see too many kids getting in trouble because they have no parental support. I am always glad to see when parents get involved. So for all the parents I saw yesterday and to all the ones like them, THANK YOU.

tclubbs2
Re: Parents passing on the tradition I know what you mean. I fish with my dad still to this day. I got him back into deer hunting three years ago. Since we live quite far from each other we get together on Opening Weekend of rifle and hunt together. Bow hunting is something I plan on passing onto my kids. My 7 year old daughter turns eight in Sept and she wants a bow. My wife doesn't want to get her one. But guess what, It has already been bought. I'd rather have my kids shooting arrows by my side than wondering where they are at.
hunterfisherman
Re: Parents passing on the tradition I grew up hunting and fishing with my father till we lost him. For years I truly believed he was the best in the country. Still think that sometimes. I have a four year old and work real hard to be that kind of father. He has been fishing for two years and despite what I say, still claims he is ready to hunt. It makes me very happy to read what was written in this post. Best memories of my life are in the woods. Guest Bob_D
Re: Parents passing on the tradition I did not get a lot of that when I was growing up. I seemed to have the drive to do it on my own. With my kids, I'm taking the lead and making sure if they have the desire, I'll make sure they have the means. Last year my kids saw me shooting my bow and they wanted to as well. Money was tight , but we got them both Mathews Mini Genisis bows (Lawn sale profits ). They LOVE to shoot and they are only 4 and 5 years old. I'm lucky to have kids who are interested in hunting and fishing. I plan on taking them both out this rifle season to sit in a box stand with me.

Guest Andrea
Re: Parents passing on the tradition I wish my boys were into hunting as much as I am. They just don't have the desire. Maybe it will kick in soon. They like guns. I think they just don't like sitting still that long. I dunno. It's not like we don't try to involve them. We've begged and pleaded....but they just don't have any real interest yet.
GWSmith
Re: Parents passing on the tradition It is Definitely cool to see something like that! My Wife and I have seen something similar while taking the Hunters Education Course. What both of us thought was really cool was one guy taking a neighbors kids to the course
wtnhunt
Re: Parents passing on the tradition My girls show quite a bit of interest in anything to do with the outdoors and hunting, but have not gotten them a bow yet. Oldest, was 9 last year, killed her first deer last year with a rifle during the youth hunt. My 5 year old wants to go more this year and promises she will not make me bring her back in before it gets dark this year. Will be an interesting year to say the least. Am really thinking this Christmas will get a bow for the wife and oldest daughter.
257bob
Re: Parents passing on the tradition I work for a store setting up bows. I love to help out a family. I say family because it is not always father and son. I get a real thrill out of helping a young person get their bow set up and shooting. My dad took me hunting and fishing for as long as I can remember. To this day he is my best hunting buddy and friend.

Switchback29A1
Re: Parents passing on the tradition I got into deer hunting on my own with my friends and their dads. But my dad got me into hunting when I was little, chasing them tree rats around. I'm hoping this year I could get him to go sit with me rifle hunting. Adjam5
Re: Parents passing on the tradition Yes, its is good to see parents getting kids into OUR THING of hunting, fishing and the outdoors. The youth are our next generation, lets pass on what we know. My 3 sons all are hunters and on their 12th bday, they were recipients of a Lifetime Sportsman License for NYS from my wife and I. Oddly enough...my dad never hunted, much less ever owned a gun, forget about shooting a bow! Where did I come from
mossyhorn
Re: Parents passing on the tradition My dad always took me fishing with him. I thank him for that too because I know I made it hard on him out there. He had to baby-sit while trying to fish and relax. I know when I have kids I will pass it on to them. Mach1
Re: Parents passing on the tradition First went fishing with my grandpa (mother's dad) when I was about junior high age. Not even sure when my dad first took me hunting. It was probably dove or quail hunting. Followed him around in the deer woods a few years before I carried a gun. My brother did the same and would sleep under the tree stand. We've got a nice picture of that. I've got my future wife to go with me and she's gonna try and get a deer on her own this year. She's from a town of 20,000+ and was never around hunting. I just hope my future kids will be into hunting, fishing, and the outdoors and that'll I can be a good parent for them.
