dogdoc
i use a full body harness that came with my gorilla stand. can be a little bit of a pain to put on in pure darkness but worth it. todd
MCH
Re: Safety Harness I use Summit's Seat O' the Pants safety system. It's a little rough to get on like Todd said, but if that's what it takes in order for me to see my boy grow up, then its worth it.
billygoat
Re: Safety Harness I also use Summits Seat O'the pants, Once I figured it out, I trimmed back the straps, so there was not a foot and a half of excess strap dangling all around me, I actually find it pretty comfortable, I've also incorporated a full length prusic knot that allows me to ascend or decend a tree w/o ever detaching from my restraint system.. it's pretty slick. Michiganbowhunter_SQ2
Re: Safety Harness i also use a seat-o-the-pants harness, came with my climber...i don't care how "tough" people think they are...everyone should be wearing these....should be some sort of law or something...like seatbelts....just my $ .
Guest MattA311
Re: Safety Harness I use the plain jane one strap old school ones that go around the middle of your chest with one loop and the other loop fastened around the tree. I've never fell or come close, but am confident it would do the trick.
IowaDeerHunter
Re: Safety Harness i use the chest harness I guess you call it. Use to use the single straps but they didn't seem safe to us, only in my opinion, not saying they wouldn't save your life. I would prefer to use the full body harness, but my dad says that the ones we have are fine. Which I am sure they are.
ScottyLuck
Re: Safety Harness I hope your Dad has a full recovery and, most importantly, has learned a lesson. I use a SOP as well and, after using it constantly, I don't feel it's hard to figure out in the dark at all. Nor do I even know it's on me once I put it on. The full body harnesses are MUCH safer than the chest straps simply because if you do fall it distributes the pressure and shock more evenly. One more note on setting up your strap. It is VERY IMPORTANT to set your harness and saftey rope up in a manner that lets you climb back onto your stand with minmal effort. In other words, don't keep a ton of slack in the rope and harness to where you fall BELOW the stand if you fall. It makes re-mounting the stand a lot harder. My rope goes as high as I can reach up the tree and then my harness attatches to the prussic not which I then slide up the tree rope to where I can't touch my boots if I lean over. Here's an interesting article that was posted on the mathews forum about the dangers of saftey harnesses. http://www.cdc.gov/elcosh/docs/d0500/d000568/d000568.html

Guest curt
Re: Safety Harness Seat of the pants also for my son and myself. Had a friend lose the bottom of his climber this year with a chest harness on and he had it slide his arms up so bad he could barely do anything with his arms to free himself. I decided then full body was the only way to go.
tedicast
Re: Safety Harness I also use the Seat-O-the-pants harness. I love it. Don't even know i'm wearing it. I don't leave the ground without it.
Mach1
Re: Safety Harness My brother and I both use the Hunter Safety System harnesses. By far the easiest harness I have used.
Tominator
Re: Safety Harness i have 4 harnesses. the one i use most often is the Ameristep lineman's harness. it's big, bulky, sorta noisy, and i wear it all the time.
Chrud
Re: Safety Harness I have a Summit Team Realtree Seat-O-The-Pants Safety Harness, along with several regular Seat-O-The-Pants harnesses that come with every Summit stand. I have the tree rope tether rigged up so if I fall, I only fall a few inches. I put the rope up high and tie a loose not under the prusic knot, so if it fails to engage, I still don't go down to the end. A safety harness, especially a 4-point full body harness, is a must! Bow Hunter Derek
Re: Safety Harness Seat of the Pants. I own 2 of them now. I keep one for buddies if they are hunting on my property with me. I won't let them in any of my tree stands with out a harness.
MUDRUNNER
Re: Safety Harness I HAVE A FEW,BUT MOST OFTEN USE THE ONE THAT CAME WITH MY API I BOUGHT A FEW YEARS AGO.IT'S VERY SIMPLE TO PUT ON AND SAYS LEFT SHOULDER AND RIGHT SHOULDER ON THE STRAPS SO YOU DON'T GET IT ALL TWISTED UP.IT ALSO HAS LINEMANS HOOKS WHICH HELP WHEN HANGING LOCK ON STANDS.HOPE YOUR DAD IS BACK IN THE WOODS SOON. AaronS
Re: Safety Harness I have a Seat O the Pants that I bought before Summit bought them out. It was made before they started using ropes with prussic knots (it has a web that attaches around the tree). After using it enough times you get pretty good at putting it on. I need to find me or make me a rope with prussic knot, I think that may make shooting certain directions with my bow easier than with the strap. I read an article once that on average you have about 3 minutes to get back in your stand or otherwise free with a chest strap. After that the pressure on your chest is so great that you're pretty much done for. Scottyluck did a good job of covering some dangers. Swamphunter
Re: Safety Harness From my ladder stand or my hang on stands I just use a safety belt. From my climber I use a harness. I should use the harness with all them I guess...but you know how it goes. The belt is better than nothing.

elkoholic
Re: Safety Harness I hope your dad makes a full and speedy recovery. I have several full body harnesses and they came with the climbers that I bought. I am sure that any quality harness will do but only if you use it. I do not recommend a single strap, for it will squeeze the air, and life, out of you. I might also mention that you should inspect your harness for signs of wear or material fatique. Use a harness and use it properly, and hopefully it will never even be tested, but then again maybe it will. Live to hunt another day.
