huntinsonovagun
Don't see myself going on an antelope hunt soon, but maybe one day. Anyway, I was just pondering what would be you caliber of choice for an antelope hunt?
fisherguy
Re: Your choice for antelope something i can shoot well. For me that would be the 30-06. I am jure it is overkill and a flatter shooting or smaller caliber may be better, but it is what i feel confident with. I would think the .243 is probably a pretty popular antelope gun. Strut_Buster
Re: Your choice for antelope .243 with 100gr. Bullets. Or, Get the Balisticaly Superior by a large margin 243 WSSM.
AJ
Re: Your choice for antelope I would shoot something like the .243 Winchester, 25-06, 25 WSSM, 260 Rem, or something in that range. Antelope are not that big and since they are shot in open terrain, I son't see the need for the quick bloodtrail like deer hunting in thick woods. Anything from 243 and up will work just fine. robk
Re: Your choice for antelope smaller bore ammo like the 223 or the 243 or 25-06 would be ideal for a hunt for antelope if your looking to buy a new gun or toy to play with. you can shoot them with just about any caliber your confident in and would say if your confident in one caliber then shoot it. you want a flat shooting round for the most part and one that retains good speed and decent muzzle velocity and a bullet that retains good mass weight. if you have a gun that yor confident in and can shoot it out to longer distances then i say shoot what brung ya but if you feel you need to go with flatter trajectory gun then go that way. they will all dot he job just some better thahn others rob k

Nodlew
Re: Your choice for antelope I hunted public land in WY this fall--my first trip West. I used my 30.06--my rifle likes Fed Vital Shok 150 gr Sierra Gameking. I don't handload...yet, but I got the best groups for my rifle with this load. All the calibers that have been mentioned will work out great. My "lessons learned" after chasing these "speed goats" was to not only be vary of their speed, but also their eyesight. These critters are estimated to have vision similar to a human using a 6-8x binoculars...and when you are in the open country, it can be frustrating to get close. Also, some type of rest system that works best for you--bipod, shootingstick, backpack, a combination of all of the above...) will really help out when you are shooting at longer distances. Guest Colorado Bob
Re: Your choice for antelope I use my 30/06 with 150 grain bullets. Never saw a need for just an antelope rifle. Use the rifle you shoot the best. Good glass is more important than the rifle.
