Re: What brand of trail cam should I buy?

I would NOT buy a Stealth Cam. I've not found anyone that likes them. My brother had one and is taking it back to get a Cuddeback.

At our Walmart I've seen Moultrie digital cameras for about $100. I believe they are 1.3 megapixel.

I tested four different ones for Field and Stream. The Leaf River is nice but a bit more money. Bushnell is not bad either. Cuddie back is good and I had no problem with my Stealth Cam. Like anything, each person is going to have their favorite that they are comfortable with. I would do digital though. With a memory card you can leave it out for a good while. Look in the Classified section here. You may be able to get a little nicer one for the money you have. I sold a couple hear and I have seen some others at a great deal. I think there is a couple in there now. Also, I look at customer reviews a lot too. I go online and find a place where they have posted some reviews and read through them. There is no substitute for honest customer reviews. Field and Stream is running the one I did in a month or so but that probably wont do you any good.

I've never owned one before, so give me some suggestions. I'm willing to pay around $200

I've had some experiences with trail cameras.

I have 2 stealth cams & like someone mentioned above I won't be buying anymore. They are reasonably priced but they take too many bogus pictures when the sun rises or starts to set. Plus the first one I bought, cold weather damaged the motion sensor. My other cameras are Deer Cams http://www.deercam.com/ . Great camera, easy to set up but the film processing is killing me. What I've spent in film developing alone I could have bought a a digital camera. Plus this camera is about to be discontinued because its made by Cuddeback. Bass Pro was selling the 35 mm version for 65$. Cabelas still has the 35 mm version for 99$ but I'm sure they'll be slashed probably after the season is over. Cuddeback is going strictly digital with their cameras. http://www.cuddebackdigital.com/

If you don't want to pay that price for a digital, Moultrie Feeders has a digital camera for about 160$. I've heard alot of good things about this camera & I'm impressed that it captures temperature, moon phase, time, date, and location on every photo.

Moultrie Cam

Hope that helps.

Don't dork around...get a Cuddeback.

Moultrie and Stealth seem like hit or miss....some are fine, some are lemons.

I had a Leaf River and loved the pictures...just had to return it because I missed the most important week I needed it for repair.

Whatever you get, buy it from KTMMIKE. The guy is awesome.

You got that right Mister!!!!!!!

I asked this question about two years ago and like you I got many differet answers. I chose to get a Leaf River but had to wait till I was able to fit it in my budget. KTMMIKE offered me a sweet deal this last spring and I had to take it. I love my Leaf River DC-1 and it has given me zero trouble.

My Cousin bought Stealth Cam digital and he hates it. VERY VERY short baterry life.

Good luck with your search!

Re: What brand of trail cam should I buy?

Well guys thanks for the recommendations. I went to Cabela's yesterday and bought a Cabela's (made by Moultree) 4.1. I got the unit and a battery for $159.00. I set it up, so I hope it works well. I looked at the cuddeback and leaf river but they were a little pricey for me. I let you know how it performs.
