And it HURT!!!! I was out putting up a ladder stand in the yard to start practicing off of, and of course, noone is home. Well, I get the brace tied in, and head up to get a strap around the tree, so I can tie the seat in, well, the top decided to come away from the tree about a foot or so, and I decided to jump instead of letting it dump me to the ground. Jumped about 5-6ft, landed HARD on my feet, hurt my right ankle. Kinda scared to take my boots off now crazy.gifcrazy.gif

glad your ok gator...

You don't attach it until you get to the top Buckee. You are supposed to tie up before you start working on a stand according the TMA.

Be smart and don't tell her!! If she asks how you injured your ankle tell her you were going out to buy her some flowers and you twisted your ankle in the driveway before you left. grin.gif If you can walk I'd make sure you go out and clear out the fallen over ladder stand. smirk.gif

I bet she's smarter than that.............. grin.gif Better not tell her you were on your way to buy her flowers....that's just not believable. Maybe something like............you tripped over the dog as you were walking in the yard. confused.gifgrin.gif

Listen to me......aiding and abetting. Great juror quality don't you think?? grin.gif

She would know I was lying if I told her I was headed to get her flowers, and if I did buy them, she would think I screwed up ROYALLY!!!

My right ankle and my left heel are a little sore, but I don't think any seriuos damage. Hurt like the dickens when it happened though, and that was aided by the blackberry bushes I landed on that I mowed awhile back crazy.gif

Re: I just bit the dust!!!!

Hope it's nothing serious Gator. When we stand up a ladder stand. We hook on the 2 straps that go from the seat, and criss cross around the tree, back down to the mid point of the ladder. This way, when we stand it up, we can anchor those 2 straps and have a semi secure stand to climb up into.

Re: I just bit the dust!!!!

That EXACT thing happened to guy I know, only he was taking down the stand, and it was in the woods, and he landed with his right foot partly on a log, and broke his ankle. He did this in January and it still hurts when I run, and it's still discolored.

Clear out the debris under your stands, brothers and sisters.

Re: I just bit the dust!!!!

Glad your not hurt worse!!!

I geuss theres something to be said for being a big guy like I am...I sink the ladder down into the ground all the way to the first step by getting on it shocked.gif Actually I jump on that first step until it does sink in but it has made it more stable doing that.

Yes you can use a Harness in a Ladderstand!!!

Before I lean the completed stand up against the tree I tie a piece of rope to the top of the stand and tie it again to the bottom. I use a Prussic knot on that safety rope...

ClimbingKnotSystem2.jpg

and hook in my harness to it for climbing especially when hanging a ladderstand by myself.

The ladderstands I've had before have had a safety bar that bolts on to the steps then extends towards the tree and I put that as high as I can reach...then ratchet strap it tight to the tree.

I sink the steps into the ground as much as possible then attach the safety bar...then attach my harness to the climbing rope before going up the first time.

This method may not completely stop a fall but it will slow it down wink.gif By the grace of God I have not had to test the system out yet cool.gif

Re: I just bit the dust!!!!

Jason I got to thinking about what happen to ya. If you see in the pic there are 2 real long strapes that run from the top of the stand to the bottom of it...

Once these 2 strapes are wraped around the tree and ratcheted tight the ladder stand will not pull away from the tree. This will let you then climb to the top and secure it to the top...

I know some of the older type ladder stands don't have these and if they don't it isn't hard to add them to your stand...
