wtnhunt
Re: ACLU will be all over this Unfortunately many people are screwed by the press due to their lack of ability to make sure they have the facts before airing their stories. I do agree with Chris though that there is a mentality in this country of prejudging people especially based on appearance or association, and sadly I myself have found myself doing this very thing and not even realizing it without thinking about it. Some examples I could think of off the top of my head that most could relate to but not necessarily that I have held: the long haired guy must be a dope smoking hippie, the camoed up hunter must be a bambi killer, the guy with tattoos all over him must be in a gang or a really bad person, the muslim person must be a terrorist, and the list could go on and on. People have a way of envisioning things how they want to see them and often they are very sadly mistaken.

[/ QUOTE ] LOL. You all know as well as I do what kind of stereotypees are out there when it comes to the misinformed folks about hunters. Some people really think hunters are heartless killers, who shoot anything. Back to the point, I personally have tried especially with the kids not to be so quick to be judgemental, but at the same time I fully understand this country is at war with terrorists, and we need to use extreme caution, which may at times seem to be crossing the lines with some peoples rights. Think there is a fine gray line there where obviously there will be offended people on both sides so like I said before it is a lose lose situation for those who are trying to keep us safe. muggs
Re: ACLU will be all over this [ QUOTE ] was refering to, they were screwed as as soon as the press got ahold of the story because of that very attitude. It doesnt matter if they were guilty or not at this point, the entire countries tried them already and found them guilty. [/ QUOTE ] yeah, that's the truth Chris. Unfortunately, the media will always do that. But, even though the media is blamed...I think they're actually just playing on what Americans feel anyway. In other words, I'm sure everyone would have covicted these guys in their own minds anyway...the media just broadcasts this sentitment. I think prejudice is just a part of human nature, as sad as that is to say.
257bob
Re: ACLU will be all over this I agree with most of what's being said here except this. [ QUOTE ] What kills me, is the Muslims leaders in America only complain about how wrong this profiling and how unjust itis. They complain how Home Land Security approach is discriminating. How the U.S. actions are wrong...you NEVER hear them say that the action of these suicide bombers and other terrorists are wrong!! [/ QUOTE ] Much of the intelligence that is gathered by the government (FBI, CIA) is coming from these law abiding Muslims. They in many cases are informing the authorities when someone preaches hate towards the US or other Western societies. There are a small few that feel the way that the terrorists feel, but a majority want the freedom to worship their religion right here in the US. Profile? Absolultely. Question suspicious behavior? Every time no matter how insignificant. Just don't say that all Muslims are praising the bombings and terrorism. Law abiding Muslims know that they are just a much a target as anyone here and in the middle east because they don't follow the same extreme teachings. ACLU is "A Club Losers Use" LOL

Like I said, these Muslims leaders PUBLICALLY criticize the US Gov't...but never PUBLICALLY criticize the actions of the Muslim extremist. [/ QUOTE ] SECONDLY.... if these "leaders" were so concerned about their image..... why don't they get the media involved more into what they are doing to quell the extremist. Does the media just not want to touch that facet? These guys with the phones.... bad timing on their part. When a group of Middle East students come into the country, and half of them disappear! And, how did these guys obtain so many cell phones? In Iraq, the cell phones were at one time the primary detonating device being used for I.E.D.'s until the U.S. Military began jamming their signals. Soooo, now maybe... there is a SURPLUS of cell phones..... Mohammed...take them to American and sell them!
