Turkeygirl
Well I got to gander Mountain and checked out the bows. No Hoyts or Reflexes or even Matthews; just a few Brownings, alot of Martins, and some others I can't remember. I talked to a guy who was a little helpful; held and drew back on a few bows. Of like the 3 I tried, the Martin Cougar had the best feel. I'm still hoping for a Hoyt maybe, not sure, will be trying to check out a few places in the area. I have a few questions though: The guy told me that the bows that have cams that are more egg shaped or have a sharper angle in the cam make the string turn over harded then if the cams are wheels. Any of you have anything to say on this? I guess the more egg shaped a cam, the strin is initially harded to pull back. So how are the Hoyt bows with the cam & 1/2 systems because I'm looking at Hoyts. Any of you have a Hoyt and can you tell me anything such as how the cams work? My other questions/concern is in order to possibly get the Hoyt I want, I may have to order if online or Ebay - what is my risk with this and have any of you done this? I know if it better to try a bow out first, but I have an older Hoyt and Andy has a newer Hoyt and I like them so far. I was looking at the Hoyt Selena which is a bow just for women, except it is a 2006 so it might be costly. Anyway any suggestions on anything would be appreciated! I forgot too mention I got a Whitewater button down heavy cotton shirt in Advantage Hardwoods for $10 on sale, and a Lohman Predator call for $8 to try and call in the fox that is getting our chickens. Thanks guys!
NY911Bowhunter
Re: Gander Mountain today and questions... You wont find Hoyt or Mathews in a store like Gander - they are dealer only bows... The only bows of those makes you will find online will be used - so buyer beware, plus no warranty..... Find a Pro Shop that can help you more. BUT...Martin is a darn good bow. In fact - they just released a new bow - the Bengal - $399 MSRP - loaded with current hot features in a sweet little package! Very similar to the Mathews Switchback.
Turkeygirl
Re: Gander Mountain today and questions... Thanks NY911! Do you know anything about the Reflex Excursion? I saw it on Basspro. so about the Hoyts... does dealer only mean you can only get them from Hoyt or from like a hunting only store like a bow shop? NY911Bowhunter
Re: Gander Mountain today and questions... Dealer only means they must be a shop approved by that brand to sell - take Mathews for instance - they limit the amount of dealers in an area by mileage - about 35 miles apart. I am not familiar with Reflex Bows...Cam and a Half are the devil! (LOL)
NYBowhunter71
Re: Gander Mountain today and questions... Hoyts are a good bow, You can go to Hoyt.com and check out more, and I think that they give a list of retailers in your area. I am wanting to get my wife one too. The price depends on the color you get. Camo is usually cheaper than one that is brightly colored.
Mach1
Re: Gander Mountain today and questions... My dad recently bought a Reflex Excursion package from BPS. He got the bow, Whisker Biscuit rest, sight, quiver, Limb Savers & string leeches, and a dozen Easton carbon arrows for under $500. The BPS guy that helped him guaranteed he'd be shooting 3 inch groups at 20 yds before he left the store and my dad laughed at him. Within 10 minutes my dad was shooting those groups. My dad sent a letter to the BPS HQ letting them know about the excellent service he received. Needless to say he's been very pleased with the performance of the Reflex bow. Turkeygirl
Re: Gander Mountain today and questions... Thanks! I looked up on the Hoyt website where there are some retailers, and 2 of the stores are around the area and I've been to them but not looking for bows, so I'll have to check them out. Definitely considering the Reflex Excursion or Hoyt Selena if I can find someone with it. would a dealer like this order a bow for you if say they didn't carry the one you wanted? by the way, anyone know about how much the Hoyt Selena is or Relfex Excursion? Turkeygirl
Re: Gander Mountain today and questions... The Selena is new for 2006 but I'm thinking it's probably going to be way over my spending limit, lol, which I'm looking around $300 but I'm looking at getting a new sight and release also, so I'm checking out the Reflex.
