dogdoc
patience--the #1 key to bowhunting. Playing the wind and scent control play a big role in success. Practice and practice and practice. I can leave my rifle in the closet--take it out a week before to make sure the scope is still on and be very successful. Not that way with a bow. I shoot my bow all year--you have to keep the muscles for shooting a bow in shape and keep a proper form. You only get this from much practice. You have to know your limits and proper shot selection and arrow placement to be successful. You really need to scout--know the trails the deer are using from feeding areas to bedding areas so you can ambush them 15 feet up in a tree or from a ground blind. Get with a proshop---have them set up your bow and get it properly tuned. Get high quality accessories for your bow. Good arrows---good quality razor sharp broadheads. And don't forget---lots of practice. todd

VermontHunter
Re: new bow hunter Hey welcome to the forum!! I to am new to the world of bow hunting and also shoot left handed. All I can really say is what dogdoc already covered and as you noticed he stressed the practice part and he's not kidding this is the key factor along with having your bow set for you. I was very successful my first season out and I owe that to the great and knowledgable people here in the forums. Keep practicing and be sure to do it from a hunting stand point once you have become comfortable with your new bow. most of all have fun and I'll warn you now this stuff is addicting..... Swamphunter
Re: new bow hunter Bowhunting is AWESOME! Spend the money and make sure your equiptment is atleast average. That way your only buying it once. Make sure your arrows are right for your set-up and don't go too heavy with the draw weight otherwise you'll have trouble shooting, learning good form and being consistant. You can raise your poundage and re-tune as you progress! Have fun and welcome to the forums!

billygoat
Re: new bow hunter Well, I guess the above sums it up... practice, get involved in a shooting club, make it fun, the more you surround yourself w/ people who love the sport, the more you'll want to shoot and the more knowledge you will get.
