Tom2008
Does anyone know the range for using 4-10 slugs on deer? Like whats a comfortable distance to take a deer with a 4-10 slug.
Dakota
Re: 4-10 Slugs Yeah...point blank! Don't know. I hunt w/ rifle, bow and muzzleloader. Never hunted deer w/ the shotgun, but if I did I would use either a 20 or 12. Dakota

Tom2008
Re: 4-10 Slugs I know some women use 4-10 slugs and have taken deer with them just don't know a comfortable distance.
arrow32
Re: 4-10 Slugs Not to far. I used 4-10 with slugs my first year of hunting. I wouldnt feel good shooting further than 30 yards with one.
Guest littlered
Re: 4-10 Slugs it depends on bullet placement, if you're try to hit the shoulder plate to drop the deer i wouldn't take shots past 25-30, if you're trying for a lung shot you could shoot probly 50 yrds. my suggestion would be to buy at least a 20 gauge but if you can handle reciol deffintly go with a 12 gauge. red

DSGB
Re: 4-10 Slugs I'd say about 25-30 yards. I killed my first deer with a .410 when I was 10. It was about 10 feet from the bottom step of my ladder stand. Turned the heart to jello, but didn't exit the deer. That was the only deer I killed with it and the only one I shot at. hoosierhunter
Re: 4-10 Slugs my understanding is that they have a flat trajectory, but have no energy.....Only good if you don't hit bone, therefore I wouldn't recommend them for deer, but find some #6's and smoke some bunnnies with it! AJ
Re: 4-10 Slugs Zero yards is my recommendation. The 410 is not a deer gun. If you or your kid can not take the recoil from a proper sized cartridge, stay home, grow up and wait till your (or they are) ready physically. Shaun_300
Re: 4-10 Slugs I agree with AJ on this one, the only time I carry slugs for the .410 is when I'm partridge hunting, in case a Timberwolf shows up. Not at all a deer gun IMO. See if you can get him a 20 ga with a good recoil pad.

mossyhorn
Re: 4-10 Slugs I have seen a guy miss a deer 30 yards away with a .410 Not sure what went wrong but just figure i would throw in my input.
Tom2008
Re: 4-10 Slugs I was asking for a friend of mine. I use a 30-30 for deer and she usually uses a .243, but for this one area she might be able to hunt you can only use shotgun.
AJ
Re: 4-10 Slugs [ QUOTE ] ... but for this one area she might be able to hunt you can only use shotgun. [/ QUOTE ] Get a 20 ga or bigger.
johnf
Re: 4-10 Slugs 20 doesn't kick much. I've shot a lot of turtles out of my father-in-laws pond with 4:10 slugs. I wouldn't use them for deer.

Guest rds
Re: 4-10 Slugs .410 can't be used for deer in New York. Wouldn't imagine much over the 20 to30 yds previously mentioned.
