NY911Bowhunter
Just got a call from my Wife, who is home alone with our son while i am at work. Today she got a bunch of holiday "candles" for the windows of our new home. They take 2 AA batteries and have a wee light bulb on top of the plastic cylinder. Tonight, she puts the batteries in, but does not turn them on. A littl ewhile later, she is laying in bed with Andrew, and hears a funny sound. She cant find the source so she goes and lays down again, hearing the noise intermittently. It's a new to us old house, so noises are not uncommon. Then she starts to smell eletrical burning..... Turns out to be the holiday candle in the bedroom, it wasn;t even on, started melting!! If she had dozed off, the dang thing could have lit on fire, strating the curtains and who knows what else!!!!! We have a lot of smoke detectors and an automatic fire alarm, but still - scary!!!! I know some store manager is in for an earful tommorow!!! tedicast
Re: Holy \"Smokes!\" (Near House Fire!) Glad she heard it before she fell asleep NY911. That could have been disasteous. Not only would the store manager be getting an earfull. I would either call or email the company that made the candle. Glad everything turned out alright. Tominator
Re: Holy \"Smokes!\" (Near House Fire!) i had a little clock that ran on two double A's. the clock stopped one day so i replaced the batteries. the clock still wasn't ticking, so in the time it took me to turn that clock over and take out the batteries the thing had to have been close to bursting into flames. the batteries burned my fingers as i pulled them out. i immediately tossed them outside into a snow bank. amazing how hot them little boogers can get. glad everyone's safe Ken. Palssonater
Re: Holy \"Smokes!\" (Near House Fire!) Wow. That sounds close! Definetley call the company and stuff! I remember a couple of years ago, I was just watching TV downstairs, using the remote that had been used for like a month already. The remote was lying beside me and all of a sudden there is a whistling/hissing noise coming from it. Flipped it over and theres the battery, hot as heck, steaming, and sizzling....wierdest thing. The remote still works today. Just a defect in the battery I guess... It was so hot I had to go in and re-solder some points!
Jeramie
Re: Holy \"Smokes!\" (Near House Fire!) That could have been bad. Make sure you take a couple of layers off their backside too. God was keeping her awake! Let us know how everything turns out.

NY911Bowhunter
Re: Holy \"Smokes!\" (Near House Fire!) The Big Wig that purchases these from the vendors returened my call tonight while I was at work. He states he does not know how a "little 'ole battery could start such a fuss"! He took one of the lights and put batteries in it - left it on his desk overnight to see what happened. (good move - I respect that!) I will anxiously be awaiting his call back tommorow to lay into him! Actually - it's not directly HIS fault - and I understand that, but I'm gonna raise a little heck - It's been a rough week! NY911Bowhunter
Re: Holy \"Smokes!\" (Near House Fire!) Yeah - no kidding. I have been in the fire service for 14 years - our "busy season" always started around Thanksgiven. I have been in more fires the week of Christmas than any other time of year! In fact, that is why I have so many detectors in the house.... I have seen what fire does, and I'll be dammed if I would let that happen to my family!
