I am looking to get a new rifle for prarie dogs, coyotes and just shooting. I am looking at a .223 of some sort. Does anyone have any ideas on one to get? I am not looking to spend more than $400-$500.

Thanks

Re: Varmit Rifle

I don't really want a single shot. I like to be able to quickly get another shell in to try to get another shot when I miss. (which isn't very often........I wish)

Re: Varmit Rifle

I would say get the single shot and with the money you save buy more ammo to practice and become a better shot so you don't need a follow up shot. Usually on varmints, you don't get a fast second shot anyway. If its a p-dog town, you can always acquire a new target and make more mist. The only real follow up shot is on some predators.

I still say become a better shooter first. Most of my repeating varmint guns have single shot bolt followers installed.

Re: Varmit Rifle

Another vote for a single shot here. You can get the nef 223 varmit riffle for a hair over $200 at Wal-Mart and put some good glass on top with the rest of your money. You won't find a better out of the box gun for accuracy without spending 4X that much. IMO

Buy a New England single shot for a couple hundred and then spend the rest on a good scope. Always buy good glass first.

i got one and it shoots 3/4 inch out of the box. spend your coin on a scope!! if ya can't see it ya can't hit it!
