Gator
I am switching from pellets to powder for this year. In the past I have shot 209 primers, but with the loose powder, would I be better off going back to the #11 caps? I am unsure if I can find a musket nipple for my Ml
257bob
Re: Primer question I don't think so. The 209 is still a hotter primer and will burn more consistent. I have thought about switching to the granular powder as well, but I can't get away from the convenience.
Jeramie
Re: Primer question I shoot the 209 with Pyrodex. I wouldnt go back. The 209 is loads hotter.

257bob
Re: Primer question Muzzleloaders were available with 209 ignition systems before the pellets came out. I think the 209 is the best primer system with any powder.
hunterfisherman
Re: Primer question I would stay with 209. You'll be fine with it.
Jeramie
Re: Primer question [ QUOTE ] I was wondering if it could possibly be TO hot for powder?? [/ QUOTE ] I wouldnt think so. Im shooting a break over ML and I shoot loose. Infact ive never bought anything else. I get pretty dang good groups with it and have never noticed any inconsistancies. AJ
Re: Primer question Actually, I prefer musket caps with muzzleloaders. I do not like the 209 and none of my 5 different muzzsleloaders shoot better with 209's other than my Savage with smokeless powder. All of my Knights, T/Cs, and Remington shoot better with musket caps, or small rifle primers.
