AJ
Cold blueing does not look near as good as a good hot salts blue. If you decide to try it yourself, I recommend Oxpho-Blue from Brownells. Its the easiest to use and is the most durable of the cold blues. Here is a PDF of the instructions for Oxpho Blue. These shop swabs great for applying the blueing. Another option is to use a bake on finish. Brownells also has a good product by Gun Kote that works extremely well. Its called Brownells Teflon/Moly Gun Finish. You do need to bake the metal afterwards in the oven to cure it. Since this involves temps of 350° F, you need to remove all springs, seals, and wood, prior to baking. Professional blueing can make an old gun look like new or better. The level of polish is up to how much $ you want so spend. Mac's Shootin Iron does a very good bake on finish. He disassembles, polishes where needed, coats, and reassembles the gun. I highly recommend him. Accurate Weapon and Plating have been around a while and do a wide variety of finishes.
